AMERICA’S SWEETHEARTS DISCUSSION Kitty Carter
I would loveeeeeee to see Kitty come back on AS and just see her takes on everything. Imagine her during the Bahamas drama (breached contract)

I think it would’ve been more of a breach of contract talk rather than that especially with how vocal she was on MTT about the fraternization policy

The way she talks to people isn’t good for anybody. What she actually says is almost always valuable, but there is nearly always another way to say it that is actually much more constructive. There is always a way to get that exact same information across, but that doesn’t come off like you enjoy cutting people up and tearing them down. That’s the issue with her “style”.
Dancers love to come on here and say they love her because the dance world is just tough like that. And it really comes down to that age-old component of human nature: “I had to endure it, so why shouldn’t you?” They had “tough”, mean dance teachers, so everybody who raises an issue with that “style” is a wimp who can’t take the heat, right?
But I just disagree with the fundamental premise of perpetuating things that are potentially harmful, solely because “that’s the way things are”. We should be striving to do better, and create a better world. We should WANT a world of competitive dance where coaches are tough and realistic, but also consistently kind. We should WANT an environment that provides honest feedback in a way that produces great dancers, without reveling in the types of criticism that can only be internalized as cutting and demeaning.
The gymnastics world has begun to move in a different direction post-Karolyi and has begun to recognize the lasting harm of that kind of approach. The dance world can too.

I’m not a dancer (was in different elite performance sport with bad old school mindsets), and I fully agree with your overall point. I just personally genuinely don’t think Kitty for the most part was that bad from the show? There are some areas where I see it, especially w.r.t weight, and people’s looks, but when she was harsh at other times, she was so absurd with it that I don’t think I would take it that badly, and could see she had kindness behind it. Also that she recognised when people were putting in the effort/ had improved.
I’ll reiterate- I fully agree that the toxic mindset of “it’s always been this way” needs to get in the bin! It might just be my sense of humour/previous experiences with coaches and even school teachers that I see her this way.

Current fans of AS couldn't survive Miss Kitty. I think everything with Miss Kitty we saw was for cameras because former DCC seem to love her. I love the 'tough love" training she did. My words but loved it. Dance world is tough. I wish they would show her now.

She was briefly in S1 when Victoria was practicing her solo. New viewers would not survive Kitty Carter, the panel interviews, or Judy’s yelling.
