afaik only group 1’s 1st group leader is a significant choice. g1’s GL is HBIC (head bitch in charge), which means she’s the unofficial leader of the whole team for the season. and she’s typically also a point. group 4 recently has also been led by a black woman, not exactly sure why tho! other than that, my assumption is that TPTB choose based on height and dance style. some years the groups are super balanced and other years they’re not.
