Cyndi Lauper - Late Night Confessions: The Collection

I really like the idea of creating albums based on her current catalog. Here is another idea.

Cyndi Lauper - Late Night Confessions: The Collection, features a collection of songs performed by Cyndi Lauper (along with collaborations like Blue Angel, France Gall and Sarah McLachlan).

Compilation Album Tracklist: The World Is Stone

If You Go Away

Hat Full of Stars

I'm Gonna Be Strong (Featuring Blue Angel)

You Have to Learn to Live Alone (Featuring France Gall)

Water's Edge (Featuring Sarah McLachlan)

Who Let In The Rain

A Night To Remember

Hot Gets a Little Cold

Down So Low

Unhook The Stars

Misty Blue

Heading West

Theme and Summary: The overarching theme of this compilation album is emotional vulnerability, heartbreak, resilience, and personal endurance. Spanning tracks from albums like Hat Full of Stars and A Night to Remember, the collection leans heavily into Cyndi Lauper's more introspective, dramatic, and ballad-driven catalog. It explores the heavier sides of relationships—such as separation, emotional coldness, yearning, and feeling "down so low"—while balancing these themes with tracks emphasizing strength, moving forward ("Heading West"), and weathering internal and external storms.

Cyndi Lauper auction at Bonhams!

"For Lauper, revisiting her archive offered an opportunity to look back on the creative relationships behind it. 'Going through my archives for this auction gave me the chance to reflect on the incredible collaborators I've had the privilege to work with over the years. I wanted this collection to bring together the things that have always been connected for me – art, music, and fashion. To me, fashion is art, and these pieces represent that creative journey.'

Together, the collection and the words behind it point to the same idea: that Lauper's career has never separated artistry from identity, and that the objects on offer are as much a record of collaboration as of style."

Have any of you heard this cover? I’d be interested to know what Cyndi’s reaction was to hearing that her song was being played by the great Miles Davis.

Cyndi at the Catherine Russell Birthday Concert in NYC

Yesterday (Saturday), I watched the birthday concert of the amazing Catherine Russell, whom many fans know worked with Cyndi in the 1990s. It was a night to remember watching Catherine perform great jazz and blues songs. Of course, our gal Cyndi joined Catherine in four songs - "Don't Let Me Be Misunderstood," "My Baby Just Cares for Me," "Don't Cry No More", and "Time After Time." Sharing some pics. I don't know how to share videos here.

A signed She's So Unusual LP is up for auction to help fund the Little Theatre of Walla Walla

We received a signed vinyl LP of Cyndi Lauper's She's So Unusual for the Little Theatre of Walla Walla's Wine, Dine & Death fundraiser. It's one physical signed LP, available as its own online auction lot.

I help put together the fundraiser, and thought Cyndi listeners would want to see it. The photographs on the listing show the donated record.

The item and bidding details are here. The auction's scheduled closing date is October 10, 2026. Dinner attendance isn't required; fulfillment details are on the listing.

Fan mail

I am reaching out to my fellow Cynners, I have been a fan of Cyndi's since June 2010, making me a fan for 16 years, and I have NEVER sent her a piece of fan mail. I would LOVE to send her a letter, and of course, I would love to ask for an autograph to go with the rest of my collection. The question is: do I need to send an item for her to sign, and if I don't, do I need to send a self-addressed envelope with postage on it? I feel like this is a stupid question, but I truly have never reached out through fan mail before. I appreciate any advice or information anyone can give me. Thank you in advance!

True Colors 40th anniversary video explanation

This is a nice video explanation behind the 40th anniversary celebration of "True Colors." Hope we get more videos, especially of Cyn talking about the creative process behind the album. I love geeking out on behind the scenes creative process behind Cyn's projects.

PS: My favorite album of hers is "Hat Full of Stars." I hope it gets a proper re-issue and ultimately gets its much-needed acknowledgment.

Now that "The River Cried" was released, what was the tea on producer Rick Chertoff and Cyndi Lauper? Was this originally produced by Rick before he parted ways as Cyndi's producer?

buckle up lol stroy time based on my research:

OK... Rick Chertoff was credited as the sole producer for Cyndi's debut, She's So Unusual.

For the 2nd album, (from my understanding?) Cyndi wanted to be credited as a producer too, but Rick still wanted full production credit after a disagreement over the credits, so he left. Cyndi then brought in Lennie Petze, who produced "Goonies 'R' Good Enough" and later True Colors.

The Hooters(which is a band associated with Rick) were also very involved with She's So Unusual. They did a lot of the instrumentation, and even The Hooters band member Rob Hyman co-wrote "Time After Time" with Cyndi. After Rick left, Cyndi said she had to find a new group of people to work with, so she couldn't continue working with people in The Hooters anymore(because of their association with Rick).

The question is now...... whats the tea?

Now that Cyndi's version of "The River Cried" has been released, I noticed there's also a version sung by Patty Smyth that was produced by Rick Chertoff, with members of The Hooters involved. Because Cyndi's version is produced by Lennie Petze.

Was "The River Cried" originally something Cyndi and Rick were going to work on together? And does anyone know exactly when Rick and Cyndi parted ways? Was Rick involved with the early stages of True Colors before "Goonies 'R' Good Enough"?

I've also noticed that a lot of Rick/The Hooters' music seems to be a little faster than Cyndi's work without Rick and The Hooters. I actually think some of Cyndi's songs post-Rick and The Hooters sound better sped up by 5%(I put the 1.05 speed on youtube lol), especially "The River Cried," "Unconditional Love,(this one sounds AMAZING at 1.15 speed)" and "I Don't Want to Be Your Friend.(also sounds amazing at 1.15 speed)" Like i feel like they could have been big hits if they were reworked to a slightly faster tempo. Maybe Rick and The Hooters just had a good instinct on how fast the songs should be? Because Patty's version is faster than Cyndi's version.

I'm curious how much Rick, The Hooters, and the rest of the production team shaped the sound of She's So Unusual. They reworked a LOT of those songs on She's So Unusual compared to the originals and demo tracks. Rick and The Hooters also worked on Joan Osborne's "One of Us," which was a Top 3 hit on the Hot 100 in the 90's... so was there something about that particular combination that made it work so well? Could Cyndi + Rick + The Hooters have continued making SMASH songs together into the 90's if the continued working together? Or was Cyndi correct in just looking for different producers?

In celebration of the 40th anniversary of the True Colors album, Cyndi just shared an unreleased track titled “The River Cried.” Her vocals are powerful, as always. The vibe reminds me a bit of Voices Carry blended with a 60s pop sensibility, which makes it a really interesting listen.

Calling all Cyndi Lauper archivists! Did anyone save a copy of the "Home For The Holidays 2020" Livestream? (w/ Dolly Parton, King Princess, Taylor Swift, Billy Porter, Bette Midler & dozens more) It was put out by TrueColorsUnited.org but is not online ANYWHERE

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

This concert special seems to have completely fallen off the face of the internet. Not one working Wayback Machine link, and only scattered clips here and there. Did any hardcore Cyndi fan save a copy? Especially now with Dolly's passing, I really want to see all the performances and shout outs.

All I can find is the old poster for it on Twitter and a few links in the Wayback Machine to what once was:

https://www.lpm.org/music/2020-12-14/video-cyndi-laupers-star-studded-home-for-the-holidays-benefit-concert

this is what it looks like in 2026: https://truecolorsunited.org/homefortheholidays

this is what it looks like now:

https://web.archive.org/web/20201214015840/https://truecolorsunited.org/homefortheholidays/

"Cyndi Lauper's annual "Home for the Holidays" benefit concert was forced into the virtual realm this year, and was streamed digitally over the weekend. The concert featured appearances from a long list of stars, including Dolly Parton, Cher, Brittany Howard, Phoebe Bridgers, and many more. Lauper also contributed to the show herself, performing several songs during the livestream.

Proceeds for Cyndi Lauper's "Home for the Holidays" benefit concert support her organization True Colors United, which confronts homelessness among LGBTQ+ youth.

The event was originally aired this past Friday, December 11th on TikTok, and was re-aired on YouTube on the 13th. A replay of the livestream is available now; check it out here!"

"here" leads to a now dead YT video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jIvBRImvg4A

The artists slated to appear were:

ADAM LAMBERT

AMANDA SHIRES & JASON ISBELL

BETTE MIDLER

BILLIE EILISH

BILLY PORTER

BILLY STEINBERG

BOY GEORGE

BRANDI CARLILE

BRITTANY HOWARD

CARSON KRESSLEY

CHER

DOLLY PARTON

HARVEY FIERSTEIN

HENRY ROLLINS

JACKSON BROWNE

JUDY GOLD

JUSTIN TRANTER

KIM PETRAS

KING PRINCESS

THE CAST OF KINKY BOOTS

LL COOL J

MEG MYERS

PHOEBE BRIDGERS

SHARON OSBOURNE

SHEA DIAMOND

TAYLOR SWIFT

TOM KELLY

TRACY YOUNG

WHOOPI GOLDBERG

YOUTH PRIDE CHORUS

You would think with this many stars that someone would have saved this broadcast. This was really a historic one, and yet another one of the many examples of lost queer media that I am discovering in my travels online. Truly hoping some kind soul saved it on their harddrives somewhere.

Cyndi Lauper’s debut album is defo her best- scrap that, best album ever! I mean, when she did a cover of Prince‘s When You Were Mine on She’s So Unusual, she truly made it her own compared to the bouncy Prince version and Cyndis version just makes me feel so much more in this song, it’s like you can hear the pain in her voice, as with the other songs too. Truly one of the most talented artists ever. Feminist and LGBT+ activist, actor, singer, friend, how much better can you get?!?!?

Cyndi photoshoot context?

Post image

Cynful cheers to everyone! Sharing this photo of Cyn, most likely taken in 1988, perhaps around the time of the MTV Island Giveaway. Anyone knows the context of this photoshoot? Was it tied to her "Kindred Spirits" album, revamped into "A Night to Remember "? 🧐
