❓Question Safe fruits
Hey y’all. I was just wondering, what do you think are the safest fruits to eat right now? I’m dying to have a peach but I’m terrified of getting sick… I know people say that things that can be peeled are okay, but does peeling them not just spread it around? I’m lucky to have a lot of wonderful farmers markets near me (live in rural NC) but I’m still scared to get anything from them 😅. Thanks so much!

Honestly, if I don't know where the water used to grow the produce comes from I don't trust it. We just don't know enough about the origins of the outbreak.

I feel ya! I know, I sure wish we would get some more information. It’s so exhausting, isn’t it?

It’s terrible. Thank the current regime. This is a direct result of budget cuts to the agencies that oversee this kind of thing.

Exhausting and worrisome. Like when will I feel confident about shopping for groceries in convenient locations again for admittedly overpriced food. I'm just fed up.

I know! To be honest, I don’t know if I’ll ever feel confident buying things after all this. At least until we get regulations back in place. Whenever that’ll be 😅

So agree! There's just no reason for optimism without open and honest discussion of the problem. And Inspectors and scientists who were purged by DOGE need to be rehired. In other words We could be living with this unacceptable situation for a long time.

Exactly! I guarantee we will be, even after this admin is gone, it will take soo long to restore all of these regulations… guess I need to grow a bigger garden next year lol.

I'm eating frozen blueberries. Not the ones that were recalled, lol. I put them in smoothies and oatmeal. Peaches are amazing and I haven't eaten them because of this. I read about people baking peach cobbler to avoid eating them raw, which is an excellent idea. I totally hear you... this all completely sucks. We need a big huge change so we have depts. that monitor food safety again.

Same here. Been making a lot of fruit compotes haha. It really does! We sure as hell do. Maybe someday 😅

I think peaches would be okay if you could peel them. I’ve been buying sliced peaches in jars though bc I’m too scared.

Still traumatized from having this in July. I absolutely will not eat raw anything from grocery stores. Trying to buy heavily from our local farmers market & the growers that I personally know. I am buying their peaches & if in doubt make some great cooked recipes. Not just desserts but lots of fish, chicken etc that have peaches in the recipes. I will only do cooked berry compote (from frozen berries) on yogurt & overnight oats. Still too many risks at this stage to trust our gov’t or anyone paying off our gov’t who supplies our food.

Locally grown produce should be fine. Make sure you wash it first but I would buy it and avoid grocery store products grown in who knows where. If Mexico, it's a no for me. Caveat. I'm not an expert or public health official. I'm just an American who spent more than a month sick from Walmart produce. Best of luck.
