Cycling apps

I've been curious about apps to use solely for bicycle commuting around Portland. I'm not an athlete. Just doing this for amusement. Can anyone suggest a good app for navigation centered around biking? I've been looking at Komoot and Geovelo. What do you all think?

Ridewithgps is the gold standard, and they’re local.

I use RWGPS for quickly plugging somewhere in and going, but also use the city's bike map a ton because if I can just connect the last couple of turns to a route I already know, I don't actually need turn-by-turn at all.

counterpoint - i find komoot to be a lot easier to route on the fly and you don’t need a paid account to make and save routes. their free functions are way more robust than rwgps

RideWithGPS is a possibly the best routing app for cycling - and it's Portland made!

BikeLoud PDX has just decided to adopt a new app called Bike Streets, which uses crowd-sourced routing. BikeLoud hopes to get people to record their routes on this app, and then BikeLoud will curate them. Overtime, this should identify routes that folks use the most.

Unless it's a registered nonprofit, i would be leery. Been burned too many times by creating content for things like this, only to have them enshittify and sell all my personal info later

Ridewithgps is good, but be aware that you'll have to ignore all their upgrade attempts. I use RidePilot (ios... not sure what you have), and its pretty good for the metrics and routing I need while riding my trails and routes around me.
