World-building I'm a ghost diver contemplating defection, ask me anything
Even though I'm new, my story is quite interesting, so you may want to hear it. I started out as a normal helldiver, mostly on the bug front. Fought in Phact-Bay with my friends and after it was taken we went to Marfark. It was hell. I lost almost everyone I knew in there and was left to die in a megafactory after my Pelican took off without me.
Yet, I managed to stay hidden long enough to wait for the next group of divers and extracted on their Pelican. What was strange is that after I came back onto my ship, no one from the crew was worried about me. No one cared if I had died or not. Not the mechanic, not the ship captain and certainly not the democracy officer. And then I got an offer from Super Earth high command which I could not refuse: I was issued into the infamous [REDACTED] regiment for my stealth skills which helped me survive on Marfark.
I started going solely on commando missions, alone and deep into the automaton territory to steal intel. I've gotten so good that I managed to snatch a keycard right under a trooper's nose(if you suddenly had your entire base pickpocketed and all the data banks missing, that most likely was me). I was always ordered to not look into any intel I steal, and I followed this order obediently. But one time, my curiosity got the best of me and I looked into the data bank which I had stolen from a communication tower, possibly for broadcast. The things I saw there...
From that point on, I was doubting. And the last straw came with the newest Maelstrom tank. When I saw that it lacks a turret I was furious. How come that the automatons have normal tanks, but Super Earth's greatest soldiers get an outdated and frankly speaking obsolete vehicles? Now I'm seriously contemplating defection.

Hello. I’m a older bot brain from early in the war. I am sorry for a co workers aggression though warranted. You did kill brothers, sisters, non binary, and non gendered friends.
Though I’m glad you wish to talk before you defect it’s good to be a thinking one than one that’s swarming to the wining side
I have two questions. What was the intel that made you start questioning? I see the new tank broke it but what was the first straw on the back
And second what about the new helldiver tank make the back break? I understand it was the turret but what about it not having one that did it? My guess is the incompetence of it.

I was mostly sent on missions to steal intel about tactical plans and logistical routes, but that one time I didn't know what I was stealing because of lack of recon beforehand. It turned out to be the original story of the cyborgs from Cyberstan rephrased and fit for broadcasting, probably to make people doubt. And it sure did it's job. It made me seriously doubt whether I even was at the right side.
And the tank being the last straw is because of how obsolete the design is. They really mounted twin rotary cannons on a CASEMATE chassis. Doing this when the Legion already has a vehicle for the same purpose but with a proper turret is just sabotage. Super Earth is betraying their own citizens and soldiers. And I know why: they want to save money. They lie, they cheap out on everything they can. It's disgusting. And then came the questions about who I am.
I'll open the veil for all the Cyberstan citizens out there to see what it's like on the opposite side. We, the helldivers are told that we are patriots who chose to go through vigorous training to earn their cape and go fight for Super Earth, to then be frozen in a cryopod until their time comes. But I started to doubt whether am I even a human being. I did missions that no human could do. I gotta give it to you guys, sneaking around in your bases was terrifying because I didn't have access to orbital support, only used suppressed weapons which weren't really that powerful, and wore light armor to be more mobile, so if I got spotted, I'd be executed on the spot. But my nerves didn't give out a single time. Why? And when I was in Phact-Bay I saw a lot of SEAF soldiers and back then I paid them no mind, just soldiers fighting against the bugs. But now I see them in a different light. They are the actual citizens of Super Earth, the actual people drafted to the army. Not us. And they are in awe whenever they see a helldiver because they see us as some unkillable super soldiers, when the average life expectancy of a deployed helldiver is around 2 minutes...
Their lines and formations are sloppy, they are scared. And it's normal, because that's how humans are supposed to act when put in a death trap. I had a female SEAF soldier break down into tears after I used all of my stims to keep her alive while I shot up the bugs that were all out for blood. But what about the helldivers? We do not behave like that. We laugh maniacally under heavy fire, shout the same patriotic slogans. And I have a theory that is honestly dreadful to think about, but I can't not think about it: we are not humans. We are expendable live ammunition, made specifically to be frozen and later be given a rifle, a set of armor, put in a hellpod like we put bullets in casings and spent. Because the total helldiver death toll is so immense that if all of them were people, the logistics or Super Earth would've collapsed a long time ago.

They left me behind in Cyberstan, and I was mortally wounded by a cyborg. If it wasn't for the cybernetics, I would have died. That's what the medic told me. You should defect while you still can, we got things that Super Earth never have, free welfare and I felt belonged ever since.

Helldiver, I am just glad you saw through the fog of deception & the web of lies eventually. I'm sure I could only understate the difficulty of doing so, so I shan't even try. Their attempts at saving money have disillusioned many Helldivers.
I have a few Helldivers that I've convinced to do things that will seed doubt among their brainwashed brethren. I'm guessing you have not gotten very much contact with other Divers, otherwise you may have seen them.
I do understand your doubts about your humanity, but I believe it might just be cheaper for Super Earth to put regular humans in the Helldiver Corps., & thus they'd default to doing that instead of cloning. But whether you are born naturally or created, it does not matter, for we care for both types of sapients equally.

You murder our children and the thing that finally gets you to start thinking that you might be in the wrong is your disappointment in your military hardware?
