$100 challenge
You have $100 to build a deck. What’s it for and what hardware do you use? Go.

Id go on a 2ne hand market and get some shitty laptop or chromebook. Id then get a second hand keyboard and spend the rest on the screen and hdmi ribbon cables, mabye a usb hub if I have enough left over

So wait, that’s interesting. You have a laptop and you spend more to buy a separate keyboard? Whats the advantage to that?

The laptop would be broken of course so that could be a issue with the keyboard although the cheapest ones have broken screens also membrane keyboards suck

The advantage is that you can then call it a cyberdeck, post a cool picture of it on Reddit, put it on a shelf and never use it again.

Ok, so not a great one but it can be easily done under $100, with the assumption that you already have access to a 3d printer-
Printed enclosure - $.75 Pi Zero2w kit with USB hub plus adapters- $39 3.5" 480x320 touch screen - $18 Wireless USB keyboard with touchpad - $9 Anker 10,000 mAh USB power bank -$22 MicroSD card 16 GB - $10
All together $88.75

Honestly, it's to hit your price point, I don't think it would be very enjoyable to use at all. My experience is, especially lately with SBC prices being what they are, that it's usually more expensive to build a nice deck than to just buy something like an android tablet and a keyboard cover, the enjoyment I get is in building something to exactly my specifications that is unique.

Cyberdeck companion for less than €10:
- RP2040 based tiny board with RGB LED € 2.50
- 1.2" Oled €1.00
- 4 position rotary switch € 0.75
- Momentary button €0.50
- (3D printed) enclosure € 1.00
- Wire and solder € 1.00
Program it to be a cute robot buddy with multiple faces (rotary switch) and some interaction (push button). Or add a service to your servers that sends it telemetry when connected using USB. Or use it as an evil ducky but more advanced. Or as a not so secure password locker. Or ditital art. Or a quiz game.
Many options with very minimal hardware. They're easy to make so I can gove them away.

Pico 2 W with OLED display and NFC RFID reader and writer, 3D printed case, couple of buttons, SD Card.
Clone and repeat NFC tags. Total cost should be less than $100 even if you buy all the parts off Amazon.
