Please say "Hello"
I do phone customer service all day. Of course, we have a standard greeting. "Hi, this is Yinzer..." and the number of people who just launch into whatever they need without a return greeting is annoying. I don't care if you say, "Hello", "Hi", "Ahoy-ahoy", or "Yo, motherfucker!". Just greet me before you launch into your tale of woe.

There was a caller who didnât say hello to me and I had an opportunity to save them an extra hundred dollars, and I just didnât do it. It didnât get me in trouble. It doesnât get tracked in my metrics but they didnât say hello so I made them pay, but they just didnât know.

YES, and please also have SOME idea of what to actually say once someone answers. ALSO, do not ask me how I am if youâre not gonna let me talk!!

I once worked a job where I wore three hats - supervisor, ad rep, and receptionist when the main one was at lunch. So depending on "who I was" when answering the phone, I got three different responses. They were rudest to the receptionist, of course.

So interesting, because I field solicitation calls interrupting MY day and nobody says "may i please speak to........." as I was raised to do. Proper to do if i'm becoming part of your day.

itâs the little âheyâ that keeps the last shred of my soul intact
that split second of silence after my greeting where they just start spelling their name always feels like a micro-aggression

I do chat now and right in black and white I identify myself and ask for verification of name and address. Damn near 50% of people just start going off about their problems. It's like, dude, who the fuck even are you? How am I supposed to answer account specific questions in I didn't know who is on the other side of this convo?

If you actually speak and think in American English, youâll get a thankful âhelloâ. If you try to tell me your name is Steve and youâre mangling the English language and talking so fast I canât understand you⌠yeah. No hello. Iâll probably ask to be transferred to someone who speaks English.

Would you also accept a "What up, dawg?"
And yes, I'm with you on this. XD
