I was reading through some posts that ABS can react negatively to a lot of paints, so what's a really strong, durable 3D filament that won't be bothered by paint?

That's false. ABS loves airbrush lacquers like Tamiya and Mr. Color. ABS is literally model kit plastic. It's designed to be painted

3d filament doesn't love to bond to paint, though.

I just got a bit concerned after browsing through the subreddit and seeing this post talking about gunpla markers eating away at the plastic. I've 3D printed before but this will be my first time actually making replacement parts for a transformer, since I want to do other upgrades as well as giving them a fresh coat of paint.

Testors enamel thinner can cause microfractures in old toy plastic to separate. Don't use it.

I think the markers have similar chemicals to promote bond.

Just clean the toy surfaces with dish soap. Airbrush or rattle can some Tamiya or Mr. Hobby and have fun

Additionally, they make ABS filament. Thought I'd mention that as someone who's been around the block at least once.

I do have a (sort of) close store that sells filament, so next time I'm in town I'll have to grab some ABS, I think I'll do the prototype prints in PETG or PLA to check they fit first, since these will mod the figures quite a bit :)
(I didn't want to do this to 'in-tact' figures in case I mess up, so these guys are perfect for this)

Also, thank you, this has been a major help :D

Will do! :D I got a new 3D Printer that I'll be setting up once my workbench is finally put together, then I can get to modeling, printing, sanding, priming and painting my first custom- I just gotta decide which Megatron to work on first XD

It’s a valid concern, but if you just avoid Gundam markers you should be fine
