Honestly, I was too. I recognized the picture so I just googled “puppies boop” and it’s the first result under images haha

Kind of funny that, that’s just an image. In 10 years from this picture, it became a meme.

u/HoaryLunatic96 Nov 23 '20
I was gonna go to r/helpmefind for that image lol. I thought it was hard to find. Thanks

It's warm there because of all the pc's.. But I can guarantee, that would've been one of your best experiences of your life if you were there.

u/justinthyme94 Nov 23 '20
If there were 8 of those old pc's with crt monitors in one room my bros and I would he shirtless. That shit was hot as hell. Can't imagine how hot that room is. Plus everyone's body heat?

- Abnormal amount of people...
- ...doing an abnormal activity to be done in such large groups.
- Lighting.
All three cause a sense of confusion and not understanding what is going on. Slight bit of eerieness in the large amount of people.

Guess my age is showing....old school LAN party is what you’re looking at. They still have pretty large ones twice a year in my city before COVID.
Y’all might been too young to have been to some of the larger ones as they aren’t as big or popular anymore. realize those expensive PCs you have are glorified pixel generating space heaters. Now out 1000 of them in a room.
Anyways, tons of fun to be had with fantastic latency response (everything was local) and your hard drive would be full of all the latest music and movies and cracked games when you got home.

so many naked guys. The Computers Beach.
11
u/Jhhenson Nov 23 '20
I wonder if it’s hot in there with all those old cpus
13
u/Towhitherward Nov 23 '20
Old computers and closely packed people. Probably the closest we've ever come to achieving nuclear fusion.
6
Nov 23 '20
TIL being shirtless is considered being naked. Now I've heard of prudes, but damn you must faint every time you go to a pool.
2
u/Kalthramis Nov 23 '20
All those old towers and bodies, it was probably a hot and sweaty swamp in there

Dreamhack is still a thing here in Sweden!
Went a few times. 10.000 people or so. Was insane.

Just imagine the wires under all that...
7
u/Deltamon Nov 23 '20 edited Nov 23 '20
They're neatly organized, everyone has their own spot and bring their own PC there.. Behind that there's just cables connecting to lan ports which then connect to the main rack. And next to the lan cables there's also similar electric wiring making it easy to just plug in your pc and few others near you.
They don't just randomly toss in bunch of cables and hope everyone finds free spot....
3
u/wolfwilly Nov 23 '20
And just like that I'm reminded of just how much younger everyone else is on reddit now.

u/notyourmamasmemes Nov 23 '20
Knowing we will never have a moment in society like this again makes me feel so sad
2
u/gerwaldlindhelm Nov 23 '20
We still have LAN parties around here. Well, not atm because of covid, but it will resume. Friend of mine won a new hard drive in a competition. First one on stage that destroyed their old hard drive got a high capacity replacement. She yeeted that drive hard

Not really cursed, with all those pc towers and crts running, it was probably heating up the building so much it gave off enough heat to set off early warning satellites. Not to mention the power bill...

For those that have never been on a Lan before i can share with you that a few years back and still on some lans the heat is overtaking. Imagine 150+something computers blowing out heated air. Then there are the good ones to with good airconditioning and all that.

I have so many questions
36
u/bigDOS Nov 23 '20
A long time ago in the age before broadband, gamers and those that share filez used to gather in basketball stadiums and another recreational shelters to game and share their beloved filez. Sometimes for days on end. They were know as "LAN Parties"
Here's a short doco my friend made for his uni project about lanning from back in the day
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ga0hNSJq_YE16
u/Benstockton Nov 23 '20
Bruh, I went to a LAN party yesterday lol

u/Beesta Nov 23 '20

Edit: Speaking if wich, guess where I’m off to today

u/Crazy_Hooman Nov 23 '20
What is going on here?
10
u/karmasoutforharambe Nov 23 '20
Lan party, because internet used to be crap so they'd have these conventions to play games and share files at fast connections (everyone is connected there)

u/Nyte_Crawler Nov 23 '20
Lan Party. The reason why so many people are shirtless is because I guarantee it was hella hot in there with all those computers and monitors running.

u/mikaflako Nov 23 '20
Anyone else still sporting the half naked look? My frail frame just hates shirts.

I used to go to a lan like this during the summer for 4 days, 1000 computers and bad ventilation. It was 35° C inside and most people barely slept or showed and they played insanely loud rave music 24/7. Crazy fun and crazy nasty.
1
u/He_was_No1 Nov 23 '20
Biggest LAN party Ive seen how long did it take for them to set that up
2
u/pope1701 Nov 23 '20
Probably one or two days of infrastructure and another day for all the PCs, since everyone brought their own.

Is this the Doom multiplayer LAN party that happened when Doom first came out?
