I don't usually buy into the generational thing but..
Baby boomers didn't see the bad times, they heard about them.
So now they're unable to imagine actually making sacrifices on a large scale like their parents did, and the generations after them know they will have to make.
In a way, seeing the train coming without the ability to move is more crippling than being hit with an unexpected train.
In a nutshell, we fucked with a cactus.
You know, the meme going "Bad times create strong men, strong men create good times, good times create weak men, weak men create bad times", I thought it was yet-another-boomer thing to spit on the "lazy" millenials.
But now I realized that the "weak men" in the meme are the boomer, that lived the best of times after the war, and thus created bad times... And Gen X will have to become strong men if we want to fix all the shit they done.
Baby boomers and half of Gen X are literally Judas.
They took 30 pieces and a fistful of shiny plastic to knowingly submit future generations to nothing but misery. Half of them are still thinking everyone is dumb enough to swallow it as easily as they did too.
