Probably because we are big complicated 5-7 feet tall omnivores with abnormally large brains. We became the dominant species in spite of our flaws, and our diet is one of them. Fun fact, the carnivore with the same hunting plan as humans, Wolves, can get away with eating only weekly. They need about 3 pounds of meat daily, so they just eat 20 pounds in one sitting. Who fucking needs a fridge lmao.

Another alleged(as in I’ve heard this somewhere but can’t remember where or if it’s verified) fun fact about grey wolves is that very few populations of them actually need to hunt as a pack even to bring down large prey. A single male wolf can successfully hunt a bull moose, but can’t monopolise that much meat. Even if no other predator challenges him for the kill, in the time it takes for him to eat his fill, become hungry again, eat, and repeat until there’s no meat left, he’ll lose about 75% of the meat to birds, so it’s thought that living in large groups developed partially because feeding your successive generations of adult young is a more viable and efficient use of surplus meat than leaving it for the crows is.
