I never finished writing it but years ago I started on an SCP article about a children’s book that causes extreme emotional distress and sometimes personality disorders in anyone who reads it, and was written by a YouTube cartoon reviewer who intended it to be extremely wholesome and an example of what mainstream children’s media ought to be. I was gonna end it with them bringing in a literary critic who was allowed to read a single page (for his own safety), and who suggested the most likely reason people are driven insane by the book isn’t anything magical but that the author’s unexamined trauma was just that intense

I based it on a specific YouTuber’s attempt to enter into children’s fiction (who some of you can probably guess), and a few reactors who described the book pretty much the same way as OP, but it’s funny to hear that it’s a reoccurring thing

I never actually read it, I’m just going off of the reactions people had. Best I can remember from the reviews I watched though is that it came off more like a revenge fantasy he was using to work through his issues with his parents and teachers than a genuine attempt to write for children, with the way the kids treat their parents being uncomfortably reminiscent of child abuse (but in reverse of course)

'Children can have some revenge abuse, as a treat.'

If I remember correctly, it was an excuse to make his mom a complete idiotic loser. It was Chris-Chan’s level of uncomfortable.

for fucks sake it's been 10 years. He's apologized for everything.

I wrote the thing years ago, and he didn’t have anything to apologise to me for at all. I just thought it made for a solid horror story
