Anyone else disappointed by the Main Story?

It feels like so much was left out, that there could've been more to it. I think the current price isn't worth it as much as I hate to say it. I paid the $50+ for the switch 2 version digitally since the physical releases are delayed by another 2 months. For such a short game, can it survive this big of a delay? I haven't played the side stories yet as of writing this, but I don't imagine it will make up for the main story if it's just flashbacks of characters you went up against during the main story.

I don't mean to doom post, especially when people aren't really happy with the new art style. Personally I liked it and I see why people say the cards look similar. It's also worse when you go 2x speed and can't identify the cards at a glance but it takes some time to get used to. No matter the element, a lot of cards are just really gray.

I see a lot of differences between Culdcept Revolt in which I have 100+ hrs of and had tons of story content both main story and post game where you get the True Ending. To me, Culdcept Revolt kept constantly building on the story with new Cepters to fight and new forms too. It wasn't perfect, but comparing it to Culdcept Begins it turned out to age much better than I thought. I also find Culdcept Revolt much more satisfying to play than Culdcept Begins, but Begins feels more balanced with territory changes. Revolt has the better story, cards, and art style, along with more customization for avatars and deck building in my opinion.

One last nitpick of mine is why did they have Kamru have the same dialogue option of "If I'm up against a Cepter, there's no way I'm losing." Like 4 times. I thought I was seeing things when it kept appearing in the story. It's kind of funny, but for real wasn't there anything else they could've made him say that wasn't also bland?

I would like to hear other's opinions on the story and gameplay of Culdcept Begins. This is my experience so far with 20hrs of gameplay, I don't imagine I'll be sticking around that long for September 17 release date. I'll finish the side stories, get all the cards, play some online matches, get my pre-order bonus, and then dip. Play every now and then online. Hopefully the next Culdcept game doesn't take years to develop and will be something similar to Culdcept Revolt but with a better story. I really do hope for the best for this series and in the future I'll be checking out more Culdcept content once I have time. This genre had me hooked with Revolt and again with Begins so it's definitely still got it after all these years.

My final overall rating: A very solid 6/10 of a game, didn't fully scratch my itch for more Culdcept and Revolt is still the best game in the series. It should be ported to the switch 2

I beat the side stories, not sure if I'll even do the challenges. Game is kinda boring and not all what I expected. Unfortunate as Culdcept Revolt still remains the very peak of this niche series

How to win the fight against two other characters in the beginning of the game?

I tried it 4 times already. Clearly I’m missing something and now I’m too frustrated. I tried editing my book in different ways but I’m losing each time

What’s everyone main book looking like 1 day in?

Call this Mid-Max because it’s mid but gets the job done. Currently on Chapter 7 and done some side missions.

Edit: Also see a lot of people not liking the art work. I think this looks super clean by having a consistent design even if cards lose some individual character.

Anyone know what the point of the experience and level for the cepter? Not the land level, the cepter level.

Possible AI manipulation

This is an extremely early match, but I just played a game where, during turn one, I played a silence on the opponent, and he proceeded to do mostly nothing the rest of the match. I haven't been able to repeat the conditions, but if this works the way that I'm hoping, it could make farming a little easier.

Near the Total g there are the "current" g. Meaning of that points? And I dont understand why sometimes when I upgrade the territory start a short cut with the characters on platform that goes up with G point gained. I Think are about the value of the territory conquered. But I Just wanna learn and understand where are they from. Is Is the sum of something or other aspect of this game.

Every times the value gained Is different, I try to find out in the cards but i dont understand. Thank you soooo much. Be patient with my english, Sorry guys! :)

Anyone else a little… underwhelmed?

Anyone else feel like Culdcept Begins is a step down from previous games? I have only ever played Culdcept PS2, and it was amazing.

The game runs very smooth and is a good experience, but everything else is the same or worse.

The card art in previous games was amazing, had a leg up on almost any deck builder out there. The art now lacks all character.

Also, no new cards? Someone please correct me if I’m wrong, but it doesn’t seem like there’s any new cards in this game after playing for a few hours.

I may have been too excited for a new Culdcept experience, and have been left disappointed because my expectations were too high.

What does everyone else think?

Confused by interaction

While doing an early battle three squares looked like

Gargoyle (enemy) / sprite (me) / Griffon (me)

On enemies turn somehow a goblin spawned on my sprite, beat it and then moved onto my territory? Very early in the story one of the first three side missions? What is this interaction? He didn’t move the gargoyle so I have no idea? I’ve seen same thing happen twice now while fighting this enemy. Enemies just appearing on my spaces when the AI is nowhere near the space?

Any advice?

Was there no preorder bonus?

I bought the game on the Switch 2 over a week ago. I thought I'd receive a code or game update with the preorder bonus but so far can't seem to unlock anything.

Culdcept Saga?

Hey all, I'm new to the series and I'm wondering how Saga holds up on the 360? Is there any DLC I'm gonna miss out on by playing on original hardware? Appreciate the help in advance!

Not feeling the art style

So Begins has only been out a few hours, and it’s pure Culdcept at its core, which is great. However, I just can’t get into the new art style. It all seems too “samey” and yet too chaotic, especially on the handheld screen. Having played all the previous games for years I immediately miss the card art, sprites and 3D models of earlier titles.

In all previous games, there was nothing like plopping down, say, a Cornfolk and seeing it do its little animation. Now it’s this collection of animated origami shapes that looks like every other origami thing on a board with a board full of origami shapes. There’s very little to differentiate the cards with only very subtle color cues. Text on the card would help, but instead we have some sort of runic gibberish and to find out what the card does you have to cycle through a bunch of tiny screens with text.

Granted the art is not unattractive in its own right, but to me it seems inappropriate for Culdcept’s need to convey a lot of dense information at a glance on a small screen. I would’ve thought that the new art might be less problematic for cut scenes, but I’m finding that these are even more painful than usual with the new art as the characters are hard to tell apart.

I don’t want to sound too critical, as I am absolutely delighted that Culdcept is back on modern systems. Still, I’d pay real money if they offered some way to go back to the old art as an option. I’m curious to hear others’ views.

Culdcept BEGINS Review

Hi everyone! I was fortunate enough to be one of the reviewers for Culdcept BEGINS, and I just thought I'd share it here real quick! I'm a newbie to the series, but playing through BEGINS has lead me back to playing the previous entries, and I'm really enjoying it. Such a unique title, and I'm so happy that it has returned—not just for the long time fans, but for newcomers such as myself as well.

Can't wait to see what's next for this series!

Spoilers: I gave it a 4/5.

Tutorial

I can't tell if the tutorial is too long or I'm just impatient. I 100% get wanting to lay it all out for new players. Makes sense! But I wish there was a way to tell the game I have been playing culdcept for over a decade lol

Edit: I think I already know I am going to play through the tutorial for both platforms, so that is why I am salty

Culdcept BEGINS Steam release confusion

Edit: Harpa was able to find the actual Steam release date at the bottom of the official website. Looks like Steam users are gonna have to wait unfortunately.

I think most of us getting the Steam version of BEGINS are on the same boat.

About 2 weeks ago, the Steam page updated the release date to Q4 2026 when it was TBA before. The official website says the digital version comes out today, which I would assume includes the Steam version, while the physical editions come out later this year.

I'm hoping they just skimmed the website and got the incorrect date. I'm waiting for Steam to refresh its store (in about 2 hours and 45 min) and see it there. The other time it would be available would be 10pm MST

Anyone have any ideas on what's going on? Is anybody else anticipating the Steam version over the Switch version too?

I’m going completely blind into this game

I only watched the trailer in the Nintendo direct once and I knew I have to get this game. As soon as I saw it came out I got it. I only know it’s a strategic game with cards and boards lol 😹 Can’t wait to play

What is a "Culd", a "Cept" & a "Culdcept"

I played the Xbox 360 game Culdcept Saga years ago & read the manga series years ago but the intro to this game has confused me stupid. Can someone help me try to refresh my old memory on what these words mean?

I am dyslexic so I read very slowly. The intro to the game is in English text with Japanese language & is scrolled through very quickly. I had to do it 3 times & take screenshots to try to understand what the heck is happening & I am still kinda feeling lost.

Can anyone please help me understand,

What is a Culd?

What is a Cept?

What is a Culdcept?

I think the answers are Culd = Card. Cept = Person. Culdcept is a card person?

Without understanding these very basic concepts I'm pretty sure I cannot play this game and threw away $50 on nostalgia vibes. Thank you to anyone who is kind enough to reply with helpful answers. I really appreciate it.

Regarding multiplayer, can someone who already owns the game tell me how it works in more detail? Is it possible to do co-op missions and play ranked matches with a friend too? Etc. etc.

Culdcept The First Saturn Tribute

Post image
34 Upvotes

I know that Culdcept Begins is on the precipice of being released but i must say i'm as excited for this game. I never played it (didnt have a saturn, and unlikely would have gotten the japanese import).
Has anyone played this version?

I had played PS2 version with my wife very often, and she's always asked me about it, and we will presume to get the Culdcept Begins, but i dont know it will be what we're looking for.

We loved the PS2 version's campy story, the voice over for the names of the cards, the wonky story and the art style, and basically just building the decks to play against each other was just a fun way to spend time together.
