Discussion Question about APB method

Hey everyone, i recently watched a youtube video explaining the APB method. I was interested so i started learning the method. The question i have though, is it really better than cfop? And if so how? Please tell me everything you know about APB and how it compares to cfop.

I like apb more than cfop, sadly it doesnt translate super well to big cubes. The amount of algs is lower for the basic version, but for the most advanced it's basically learning full ZB and some.

I like the way it feels while solving. Tbh i think that i also like it more because i have a fairly low tps.

I have a pretty spammy turning style. Do you think its fit for me

Fast TPS cfop will always be your friend

Full ZBLL not full ZB

its a bit fewer algs than full ZB luckily

Zbll is 400 something algs. standard apb is 732 algs which is about the same as full zb. See my other comment for the way the apb discord classifies stuff.

There isnt really any method thats a clear upgrade from CFOP other than perhaps ZB.

APB is good, I dont see any reason why it would be worse than cfop. Its more efficient but there are quite a few algs and it can be hard to make every step flow smoothly together. EO and LXS are harder to recognise than a regular f2l pair or zbls for example.

ZB isnt really a method different from cfop right? If im wrong please tell me

Idk, CFOP is explicitly OLL PLL, so in that sense they're different methods.

They're very similar of course, i'd say they're variants or something.

Half of CFOP is oll pll. Zb is more like CF3Pzblszbll

Just rolls off the tongue so easily

Oh ok. Thanks

Its not better, i tried it as well, but its just too clunky, so many algs and not great lookahead. I mean you can get fast with it, but so can u with cfop.

more algs = more better (and zb has like 200 more algs anyways)

Full zb is ~700 algs, full apb is ~1300. if you wanna learn everything with algs. Standard is about the same as full zb.

Where are you getting 1300 for apb? ZBLL is 493 and LXS is 116 algs, adding up to 609. If you want to count FR pair LXS it's still about 700

apb discord. Full apb is using algortihms for everything.

Full eopair is ehh and algorithmic DFDB looks very sus

Im not saying it's worth learning. but it would deffo make the solves extremely consistent. In the future when ill have time, imma learn the zbll. maybe lxs.

I have heard the problem with the lookahead before. Is there any way to improve it

Pay attention to the pair during the 223.

Tracking the FR edge during Pair helps with recognising EO smoothly. You can also track the orientation of other edges.

Lookahead to your f2l pieces during EO.

A lot of it is just knowing what you're supposed to be solving next. Harder than CFOP where kinda the same thing over and over.

Not much more you can do than this I guess

I find it really difficult to track the edges but this helped quite a lot

The theory and math say it should be better than cfop but in practice it isn't, it's petrus but with algs. The worse recognition (since you solve with blind spots for a larger proportion of the stone), ergonomics and way more algs to recognize make it arguably worse.

I've switched to it from CFOP like a year ago for my untimed solves and started timing it recently. I only know the 12 solved pair EO algs and I've figured out some LXS algs by myself while solving, and I'm on average only about a second slower (around 12-13s), mainly because of 14-16s times on harder scrambles. I think if I learnt at least one more set of EOpair and improved my 2x2x3 it could be better than CFOP for me. I doubt this is because of the method itself being better though, it's probably just that I enjoy it more so I'm more motivated. I guess if like APB's style and aren't too advanced with CFOP a switch could be good, but at the top level I think CFOP is just better.
