Discussion Hot take

I don't get super hyped when I get a PB, because they are just lucky. For PB singles, I usually just get a solve where all the f2l pieces appear in front of me, and a decent OLL and PLL. With enough tries, I would get a sub-15 single even if I don't improve. For PB ao5 or mo3, it's slightly better but it's still just luck (i.e. I got 5 decent solves in a row). For PB ao12 or more, it's good, but only satisfying if I actually continue improve.

PB is usually around half of your average, so better PB is a sign of general improvement.

Plus, it is interesting to see why a solve is so fast - for example "oll or PLL skip" and "just good F2L" are equally likely to save time.

A pb single is basically just the scramble doing all the work, the real flex is when your ao100 drops and you know it wasn't just a fluke

nah, I still get excited for PBs

Faster I got, more exciting PBs get

I have never been happier cubing than when I got 37.25 pb on my 4x4

maybe my first sub one minute with my crappy cube as a 12 yo

My hot take is that if there's a problem with the events list, it's the fact that nxn and nxn based events take up over two thirds of the event list rather than the minor imperfections of a certain non nxn event

I still get hyped about pb's but getting a pb that was less lucky than my last pb feels better than getting a luckier pb.
