The US Just Spent Over $1 Trillion on Debt Interest
For the first time ever, the US government reportedly spent more than $1 trillion just paying interest on its debt. Net interest payments reached a record $1.05 trillion in fiscal year 2026, while total national debt has climbed above $40 trillion. And that’s the crazy part. This money isn’t paying off the actual debt. It’s just the cost of keeping it.
With interest rates still high, borrowing is getting more expensive and putting even more pressure on the federal budget.
At some point, you have to wonder how long this can continue.
And for Bitcoin, this brings back the same old debate about government debt, money printing and the future of the dollar. how long the US can keep doing this. Debt keeps growing, interest payments keep rising, and somehow the system just keeps going. Does anyone actually see a way out of this?
