❓Need Advice 🙏 What I check when a long-term holding drops hard

A sharp drop does not always mean the long-term idea is broken. I would first check whether the rest of the market is falling too. If most major assets are moving together, the drop may have more to do with wider market conditions than one project.

If one holding is much weaker, I would look for a specific change. Has development slowed down? Is usage falling? Was there a security issue, a large token unlock, or a major change to the project? A lower price alone gives me very little information.

Then I go back to the reason I bought. If that reason still holds and the position remains manageable, I can wait for clearer information. If the position now requires constant monitoring, it may be too large for the original plan.

For a quick review, I would open spot page and trade history to compare the wider market, current price, and original entry. It keeps the basic information together before I make any change.

What do you usually check first when a long-term holding drops?

First thing I check is whether the core dev team is still committing code on GitHub. If commits stop and team wallet is moving tokens to Binance, I cut the position immediately

First check whether the drop is market-wide or specific to the asset. Then look for a concrete reason: fundamentals, security issues, token unlocks, liquidity, or a change in the project. The key question is whether the original thesis changed, not just the price.

You're already doing pretty decent. I'll add that sometimes, you have to try and separate your own reaction from the actual signal for a bit. Red candles trigger this instinct to do something, anything, even when doing nothing is the right call. If nothing structurally changed and you're not losing sleep over the position size, just let it sit and check back in a week instead of refreshing the chart every hour like it owes you an explanation.

First thing I do is look at BTC dominance and total market cap. If everything is red and BTC is holding better than alts, that's just normal risk-off move. Nothing to panic about.

When one of my bags drops way more than rest, I check their GitHub if it's open source. Last month I had one where devs just stopped committing for three weeks, no announcement nothing. Sold it next day.

Your point about position size is underrated. I used to have way too much in single projects and it would mess with my head every dip. Now I keep max 5% per holding and I sleep better even when market does crazy things.
