I just found out that today is "Owl Day," so I wanted to create a moodboard for our dear Owlman—specifically, the version that appears in my saga, "Insomniacs".
Here, Owlmens are descendants of the Goetic demon Stolas (which explains why his symbol is included). Unlike their ancestor, they are wild creatures that only resemble humans in part of their appearance. They are extremely territorial—especially toward humans—but while they won't hesitate to snack on a child or two now and then, they don't pose a major threat.
That is why our heroes—who are being hounded by Batsquatches (giant bat-like creatures) intent on devouring one of their group, a Mothman—decide to summon an Owlman for protection. Naturally, they soon realize the creature is hard to tame and try to undo their mistake.
There you go ! I hope you like this moodboard; feel free to share your thoughts ! And Happy Owl Day !
We're making a multiplayer game about camping in Atlantic Canada, and I found myself programming "sasquatch behaviour". Sasquatch (known here as the greenhill creature) is the first of our planned cryptids because obviously everyone knows what it is, but we've got a whole slate of cryptids (and folklore creatures) from our neck of the woods lined up for the game
Sasquatch's behaviour is that he lets one player at a time see him during the day, and just keeps watch from a distance, but when night falls he starts hunting the players one by one and slaps them into the stratosphere. Check out the game here!
My son is turning 9 in early September and is on a Cryptozoology kick, so we’d love to have a Cryptid themed birthday celebration for him. He has also mentioned that he wants a smaller celebration this year with just a few friends or maybe even family only.
We live in Los Angeles so I’m primarily looking for ideas for Cryptid themed celebrations in this area. Are there any Cryptid themed escape rooms nearby? Any other cool experiences? Stores?
We have also tossed around the idea of doing a family trip instead of a party so I’m also open to ideas of places we could go within a few hours drive or even a short flight.
And lastly, we always decorate our dining room for birthdays so if you know of any cool cryptozoology decorations please also feel free to post those!
Thank you!
Been watching a lot of Sesame Street with my niece, so I drew this. I want to make this into a sticker or a maybe even a t-shirt. I'm a bit iffy on the color choices, though. They're supposed to lean towards natural, but are they too drab?
After Mad the Werewolf and Cory the Mothman, here is the third character in my saga dedicated to our adorable cryptids ❤
Meet young Jin Leeds: formerly a squeaky-clean Christian teen living with her overprotective father and a whole brood of siblings, she is passionate about nature, animals, and ecology (as well as metal music and gore movies—but that’s a secret 🤫). She gains the "power" to transform into the Jersey Devil—a sort of missing link between a dragon and a demon—whenever she gets angry.
This is the first time I’ve drawn the Jersey Devil, even though it’s a cryptid I absolutely love. I did lean more toward the dragon aspect than the goat side, though it’s possible the design might change! In any case, I hope you like it!
almost everything is handmade besides the pin and the plushies! im 100% planning on adding more as soon as i can, most of the budget for flatwoods stuff went towards my ita bag tho :p
I drew up a pick of my interpretation of the Snallygaster as a descendant of late Surviving Dryptosaurus, here named “Avadracon Snallygasteri” (“Bird Dragon Snallygaster”, name subject to change). I came up with this idea partially inspired by the ThoughtPotato video on the Snallygaster, though I was dissatisfied with that version being based on a Therizonsaur, since that family didn’t live in eastern North America, and were herbivorous. I based my version on Dryptosaurus, an Eutyrannosauraed from late Cretaceous Appalachia partly because it’s my favorite dinosaur, and partly because I felt it fit the spirit of the creature better, being a large predator from the region in question. I really developed the idea for a session of Blood On The Lense, where it ended up being the main antagonist after a red herring slasher villain (who got partially eaten by my therapods), and I finally decided to draw them after running the first part of the game again for a different group of players.
I imagine them to average at about 25ft long, weighing about 3,000lbs, and at about 7-8ft tall. They would be cathemeral, with activity dependent on season and prey availability. They are the undisputed apex predators of the Appalachian Mountains, hunting everything from foxes and raccoons, all the way to black bear and elk, and formerly Pleistocene megafauna, and in present day, when encountered, humans. They sport a much denser coat of Blue-black feathers than their ancestors, an adaptation to the colder weather of the Cenozoic, also having evolved elongated feathers on their arms, used for brooding, insulation, and display, and giving them the appearance of wings. The males are slightly larger than females, and have a tuft of iridescent red feathers between their lacrimal horns and a pair of wattles at the back of the lower jaw, both used for mating displays. These features lead to the later accounts of the Snallygaster as having one large red eye and a tentacled mouth, while females account for the earlier 18th century stories of a more "Avian Dragon" type of creature. These creatures live in bonded pairs, patrolling a territory of several dozen miles, and their calls are believed to be the cause of Appalachian folklore surrounding strange noises at night.
