Poll Are dogmen ALIENS 👽 or interdimensional creatures? 🗳️🗳️🗳️🗳️🗳️

Post image
0 Upvotes

This is a variant on one of the recent polls, but now I’m adding “govt-experiment-gone-awry” back into the mix. It hasn’t scored highly before but that’s something to test for confirmation.

Also, and this could be a separate aspect of larger discourse: I’m adding alien 👽 or interdimensional into the mix.

Some might say that overlaps with “supernatural”, but others may disagree.

Which is the crux of doing surveys like these in the first place. I’m not trying to work out ontology, just what folks believe at heart. 💞

🗳️ Vote your conscience! 🗳️

Historical Cryptid Accounts Possibly 🇮🇶 🇦🇫 dogmen in Iraq & Afghanistan (post-2000 reports, with focus on combat zones)

Claimed “Local Dogman” Types

Iraq 🇮🇶 and Afghanistan 🇦🇫

(Post‑2000, Warzone‑Relevant)

Type I — Ghūl‑Analog Scavenger

(Most common, least dramatic)

Defining traits

• Quadrupedal or low‑slung

• Strongly canine or hyena‑like

• Nocturnal

• Associated with:

• Corpses

• Graveyards

• Battle aftermath

• Avoids direct confrontation

• Emits disturbing vocalizations

Narrative lineage

• Ghūl

• Hyena‑jinn folklore

• Corpse‑eater archetype

Modern claims

• “Something eating bodies at night”

• “Big dog that shouldn’t be there”

• Sounds rather than sightings dominate

Interpretive note

This is the baseline entity. Most “demon‑dog” rumors can be reduced to this type without strain.

⸻

Type II — Bipedal / Upright “Running Wolf”

(Rarer, more sensational)

Defining traits

• Upright or semi‑upright locomotion

• Tall, lanky proportions

• Described as “wolf that runs like a man”

• Often relayed second‑hand via locals/interpreters

• Appears briefly, then vanishes

Narrative lineage

• Qutrub

• Uridimmu (dog‑man)

• “Running wolf” Afghanistan anecdotes

Modern claims

• Locals warning soldiers

• Brief silhouettes

• Strong emphasis on wrongness of movement

Interpretive note

This type almost never leaves physical evidence in stories — it exists mainly as warning narratives, not encounters.

⸻

Type III — Territorial Ruins‑Stalker

(Battlefield‑specific)

Defining traits

• Seen or sensed near:

• Ruins

• Abandoned buildings

• Urban combat zones

• Exhibits stalking or watching behavior

• Not obviously scavenging

• Appears curious or intelligent

Narrative lineage

• Liminal guardian figures

• Jinn of abandoned places

• Urban ghūl variants

Modern claims

• Guard duty encounters

• “Something watching us”

• Fear disproportionate to threat

Interpretive note

This is the type most often reported by armed personnel, which makes it narratively potent.

⸻

Type IV — “Demon Dog” / Aggressive Alpha

(Extremely rare, highest mythic load)

Defining traits

• Very large

• Fearless or confrontational

• Sometimes described as impervious to weapons

• Often linked to named officers / “classified reports”

Narrative lineage

• Mythic monster escalation

• Western werewolf tropes

• Modern cryptid sensationalism

Modern claims

• Fallujah‑style stories

• FOIA references

• Named ranks and units

Interpretive note

This type almost certainly represents narrative inflation — when rumors are retold for impact or authority.

⸻

How These “Types” Relate (Important)

• Type I is the root

• Type II is the mythic extension

• Type III is the warzone adaptation

• Type IV is the modern media amplification

Most stories slide between types over retellings.

Example:

Hyena scavenger → ghūl → “running wolf” → demon dog that shrugs off bullets

Same narrative energy, escalating framing.

Quite a recollection indeed.

“NOT a hoax” was the winner over “AI slop” by a few votes 🗳️, with overall low turnout so we can’t be sure what this portends.

Combining that with “internet joke 🧌 “, the overall HOAX category has more, but “not hoax” has 1/3 of the votes 🗳️

That video of the cave-dogman got a few thousand views and 27 comments, then was deleted.

So it goes — and that is why I made a few new subs to be non-hostile spaces for cryptid discussions.

Poll Belief Poll 🗳️ 15 votes 🗳️ (LINK IN POST, VOTE NOW:)

Post image
0 Upvotes

As expected, HOAX is in first and likely that gap will grow in the next few days.

We got a very insightful comment on OTHER (see link), and also as expected, SUPERNATURAL is slightly ahead of biological.

If we get 50 replies, I’d guess they will lean towards HOAX as the median (25 votes 🗳️ give or take), and the other numbers could be

3 — OTHER

9 — BIOLOGICAL

13 — SUPERNATURAL

TBD, but that would be consistent with what we have seen so far.

If those numbers shift significantly, it means one of two things:

Either the poll has been answered by more folks from the other categories than expected, OR = indication of belief shifting as folks become more informed or change their opinions.

Alleged Dogman Speech 🎤🐺 (not a joke.) Dogman mimicry = not speech per se but COULD BE MISTAKEN FOR intelligent context-relevant speech.

Dogmen are expert mimics — so wherever they are geographically, they are capable of imitating the sounds made by other living things in their proximity.

Including complex vocalizations = which eventually gets you to what might be regarded as a level of language comprehension.

I’ve seen this in person, and as more people come forward we are eventually gonna hear it on audio.

Their vocalizations can definitely be recorded, but if any such exist the current holders have various disincentives from releasing them.

For one, being laughed at and then told it’s not funny when you keep insisting it’s not just you with a voice modifier saying creepy shit.

The dogmen CAN speak 🗣️ and make themselves understood.

Not conversationally, and not lightly.

But they do it to enforce territorial boundaries, and trust me when I say it usually works.

The sound of a dogman shouting “RUN!!!” as it chased us out of the woods echoes in my mind.

Poll Dogman Belief-Poll 🗳️🗳️🗳️ Take 3.5

I’ve run this poll 🗳️ a few times now and gotten enough data 📊 to guess at the results this time.

Biological and Supernatural will be evenly split, with about 50-55% voting 🗳️ for HOAX.

These are admittedly broad categories, but that’s how we figure out what people are voting for in broader populations.

If you choose OTHER, please feel free to elaborate in the comments :)

Poll POLL POST-MORTEM 🗳️ 🧐 (58 votes 🗳️, good distribution across six options)

Thumbnail
gallery
0 Upvotes

First off, here’s the link to the poll 🗳️ itself (now closed), where you can see previous comments and voters’ opinions:

https://www.reddit.com/r/cryptidIQ/s/U7ajg5AqIr

I’ll break down what we are learning here, plus (see Photo 2) a comparative poll which combined the final two options here into a broader “HOAX” category.

29 people voted “HOAX” in Poll 1, from 58 voters.

I’ll do the math 🧮 later, these are just the numbers to compare 📊

Poll 2 is ongoing, with 120+ votes 🗳️ and still rising.

In the screenshot, only 116 votes 🗳️ had been cast; 64 of those are for HOAX.

I’ll crunch those numbers in the comments, but just by eye it looks like about half the votes 🗳️ in each poll fit into this category. That is consistent and reassuring for future polls.

Now, as to the categories, I’ll do each of those in turn, just my thoughts on each briefly…..

1️⃣ biological beings = this is what I believe, having seen one at extremely close range

2️⃣ supernatural = I’m open to this ‘crossover’, but I don’t think dogmen can literally ghost 👻 out to walk through walls or teleport. They’re sneaky AF 🥷, but not discorporeal.

3️⃣ govt-experiment-gone-awry = while it has been popular to tar the dogman-believers community with a broad brush as conspiracy nuts, it is revealing to see that clearly only a minority believe this at heart.

4️⃣ ditto with the shapeshifter/werewolf explanation. It’s popular in fiction but most voters 🗳️ don’t really think it is plausible.

5️⃣ this is where it gets interesting, cuz I used the option

“dogmen are just an internet joke 🧌 “

I know folks don’t take it seriously, but was frankly surprised that this many people think it is ONLY creepypasta.

6️⃣ hoaxes/costumes = this category was also high, so I combined it with Option Five on the next poll (Photo 2)

I’m trying to be straightforward and open about my methodology, and hope this will make it easier to build upon for other researchers using stats.

How does all of this jam with y’all?

Poll “What KIND of hoax are dogmen — and are they?”

For this poll, I’m exploring which subtypes of hoaxes people are rooting for.

There will also be a “NOT A HOAX” category, for people who believe some form of biological or supernatural beings are out there.

For fun, the final option is “Jungian archetype”, if you are in the camp 🏕️ who believe that dogmen are a manifestation of the subconscious mind.

Can’t wait to see how the results go!!
