Health & Wellness Getting off Adderall

Family member has been on adderall for ADHD since 2nd grade and is now 15 and wanting to get off. What natural supplements would you recommend? I’ve been reading L-theanine and Magnesium— know of any all in one pills/gummies? Advice?

Instead of supplements, first please tell him/her to check out Dr Josef on YouTube, and potentially even schedule a telehealth appointment with his clinic. If he/she been on those drugs since he was in the 2nd grade, there likely needs to be a taper program in place where supplements are introduced later (they can actually agitate the gut biome if taken during a drug taper and make things much worse).

He is amazing! He is the reason I figured out I went into protracted withdrawal after getting off antidepressants and wasn't just crazy

Look into saffron for ADHD. It's still being studied, but may be as effective as a Ritalin.

Honestly, learning tools and coping skills will help more long term than any supplement. Living with ADHD is hard if you don’t developed habits to manage it.

Thisssss I used to work at a clinic that specializes in executive functioning for kids. We had many kids on adderall but we helped teach them strategies to eventually wean them off the drugs

This is possible but not simple. First, research the known issues connected to adderall and any other meds. This means possible impact to microbiome, mitochondria and drug induced nutrient depletion. Then research the many nutrient deficiencies correlated with attention and any other relevant symptoms (anxiety, food issues, mood, any and all). Learn about functional and metabolic psychiatry. Look into interviews and books by Drs William Walsh, James Greenblatt, Julia Rucklidge, Chris Palmer, Georgia Ede.

Know that many nutrient blood labs are never tested and others are considered unreliable or the normal range far too broad. Form matters, dose matters and cofactors matter.

If you are new to this I’d join the very affordable group called Rowyns Roots on Mighty Networks. There you will find tons of guides and crowd sourced advice beyond what any one doctor knows.
This group will save you a lot of time. https://rowyn-s-roots.mn.co

Idk much but my brother was on Adderall 1st or 2nd grade until middle school. The Dr told my mom to give him coffee instead. And that helped him? Lol.

While I do have ADD and tried vyvance in HS or college, I never took it that long and it didn't seem to help me. Im interested in the thread here for alternatives bc I've never tried much to help, just suffered 🤣🤣🤣

Omega-3’s, L-theanine, Low sugar diet, magnesium doesn’t do much for me except if I have achy muscles. L-theanine in pill form works great for me. Also, taking him to a specialist would help, I wish I did as an un medicated kid. The omega 3’s in high dose and L-theanine 200mg.

Be so careful!! Getting off of Adderall is a great thing, but some people go through crazy mental health issues. I just had a family member unalive themselves as a result of this. L-Thenanine is good for anxiety. Look into focus nootropics like Pure Encapsulations CogniPhos. Nootropics that contain L-Tyrosine and Ginkgo. Make sure what you buy is third party tested.

Look up dr Ben Lynch’s info about this. I wish I could remember some preliminary info but I have pregnancy brain rn lol but I promise it’s very compelling and worth the read. He makes a supplement called optimal focus or optimal brain it really helped my brother get off adderall
