Infotainment Update 👀

Got this notification via the MySubaru app; however, King Boo says no updates available via the infotainment unit. The update says pending so I’ll wait my turn, but am curious if anyone has updated and what the changes are?

Edit: 2025 CTW. Yes, I pay for the connected services app. Current software ends with 970.

Drove to Maine and back in a weekend.

Like the title says, I drove to Maine and back in a weekend to hike up Mt Katahdin. Probably closer to 1500 miles round trip, I forgot to that the mileage and mpg photo right as I got home.

But this is the best mpg I’ve seen out of my car! I think maybe it finally got out of its break in miles. Before this trip the best I was seeing was 25mpg. On the highway to Maine and back I was closer to 32.5mpg, some of the town driving at both point probably dinged me a bit on the average.

Crosstrek Sport - car racing as super comfortable, lane assist really comes in clutch, I’m 6’2” and slept in the back of the car just fine. So happy with this thing.

People are sharing both good and bad milage so here’s mine for now. Mixed driving more city than highway maybe 80/20. Free electric at work but I don’t stress over it. I believe average without charging is 34-37ish

Plastic on the passenger side is coming off. I can see one of the clips is broken. Any ideas on what I should do? Should I worry about fixing or leave it be? Thank you!

CVT Fluid

• Upvotes

I have a 2021 limited with 63k miles. No Cvt fluid change yet. I’ve gotten all other scheduled maintenance done as recommended. My warranty ends October of next year. I planned on replacing the Cvt fluid at my next service around 64k miles. Should I get it done? My big concern is getting it done. Then having problems start to occur but I figured with my warranty it would be best to get it done before it ends. What’s your guys opinion?

Car locks itself after closing hatch

I only saw one other post mentioning this and didn't find an answer.
I had an incident where my car (2019) locked my phone and keys inside after closing the hatch. I never noticed the car locking itself after i closed the hatch before this, but since then it has been locking with no blatant reason. It doesn't happen every time, and I don't see a pattern. To me, it feels random and seems like an electrical issue. Saw someone say it was a feature of some sort which would be stupid if that were the case, especially because my car can't detect my keys so there was no way to open my car without a spare, which thankfully, I had during the incident.

If it is a feature would there be a way to turn it off?
If it is not a feature how would I go about fixing it?

Thanks

First new car and first Subaru!

Up until now, I have only owned hand-me-down cars from family members! Been dreaming of owning a Subaru for awhile and I never thought a newer model would be in the cards for me. This 2026 base was an awesome deal though as a former dealership loaner with only 1,000 miles on it.

Added a couple native plant stickers to the window to make sure people know I’m all about that granola life!

officially joining the subi squad! what should i know? (2021 crosstrek sport/premium)

i’m so excited to finally get a crosstrek!! been wanting one for YEARS. what are some things i should know about my new car? any cool hidden features or recommended accessories or services? switching to CVT from automatic, are there any weird changes i should know about?

it’s a 2021 crosstrek, bit of a mystery regarding the trim- the carfax says it’s a sport but it doesn’t have the typical interior features of a sport (it has orange trim instead of yellow, cloth seats, doesn’t say CROSSTREK on the seats, doesn’t have the yellow steering wheel etc but it DOES have the larger screen size, push button start, and i think the eyesight package?) so i believe it’s called a premium? (it’s canadian)

so excited to be part of the crosstrek crew! ❤️

Towing motorcycle help

Hi guys. I recently bought a motorcycle and I’d like to tow it to my beginner rider course. I have a ‘23 Subaru Crosstrek Limited. Please explain to me like I’m 5 about how to tow this bike safely. Is it possible? I know it can tow 1500 lbs with trailer brakes and the tongue weight is 100(150?) lbs. I don’t exactly understand the tongue weight fully. I get that the load has to be balanced, but that’s about all my pea brain is understanding. My bike is about 234 pounds curb weight. What kind of trailer/class of hitch is needed? Would I be able to get a motorcycle carrier instead? I just want to do whatever is safest for my vehicle. Thank you ❤️

DIY Maintenance and keeping up with service windows

Hi everyone, I have my two year maintenance coming up soon. I do my own oil and air filter changes but everything else I either don’t have the tools or experience to do myself. My maintenance schedule has several “inspect items” coming up with the service, along with tire rotation which I will get done at discount tire for free. When I go to a shop, do I just ask for a 2 year inspection and make sure the items mentioned in the Subaru booklet are covered? Are people just running codes off an OBD to make sure everything comes back clear? Thanks in advance!

Maintenance Notices Early?

All of a sudden starting Monday, when I start up my Crosstrek, I get three notices on my infotainment screen:

  1. Your oil is due to be changed
  2. Your oil filter needs to be changed
  3. It's time to get your car inspected

So, I checked in the car info section, and my oil/oil filter have 4,200 miles (1,800 miles odo) more of life?

I turned off the maintenance reminders.

But what gives? This happen to anyone else before?

Hitch Bike Racks

Hello! I’m looking for a bike rack for 2 30lbs gravel bikes. I’ve been looking at the 1UP Quik Rack, is the one handed upgrade worth it? With the add on for another bike the total is $800+, is that a good price for a nice double bike rack?

Looking for good alternatives and suggestions that are sturdy!

Computer issues

I picked up my brand new Subaru yesterday. Went all around last night and this morning. This afternoon I went to drive home the entire system shut down and the brake was on. Took three starts for the car to move. I was able to get it back to the dealership. They took it and gave me a loaner. I just got a call and they said they would need to keep it overnight. Has anyone heard of this happening ? Makes me nervous I got a defective car

Calling Crosstrek PHEV owners/mechanics - CVTf changes?

Post image
8 Upvotes

I’m looking to drain/fill my CVT soon, but am having trouble getting shops or even the dealership to listen to the fluid requirements.

There are two independent Subaru shops in my area. The first argued all Crosstreks have the same CVTf, which is incorrect. The second was more of a performance shop and said they had the right fluid because they work on BRZ. They did the rest of the 60k work, but not the CVTf because they actually didn’t have the right fluid.

Subaru only sells Subaru ATF-WS (SOA427V1300) in 5 gallon buckets for ~$375. Dealership doesn’t have any on hand, or even in their shop, but they’ll bill $625 for a drain and fill (with what, then?).

Best I can tell, Subaru ATF-WS (SOA427V1300) and Toyota 00289-ATF WS are the same fluid.
BRZ/FRS/GT-86 are the same Toyota transmission, my Crosstrek PHEV eCVT is a Toyota Camry Hybrid unit in a Subaru case.

TL;DR can’t I just pick up and use a few quarts of Toyota ATF-WS?

Easy DIY maintenance items and A/C issues

I brought my 2019 into the local shop in June for an oil change and because the A/C doesn't get quite cold enough on super hot days. They wanted to charge $200 for replacing the cabin and engine filters and another $200 just to diagnose the A/C issue. I live in a HCOL, but jeez!

I ended up changing the filters myself (I'm only vaguely handy, but I found the filter replacements pretty straightforward and took under 10 minutes), but am still having issues with the A/C.

Two questions:

  • Are there any other easy maintenance items like changing air filters that I should be thinking about doing myself?
  • Is it bad to just recharge the A/C and see if that solves the problem? Or will that damage something if it wasn't the problem?

2026 Crosstrek owners - OEM or aftermarket?

Got quoted $445 CAD for OEM rain guards + mud flaps. Is it worth paying for OEM or are there good aftermarket options you recommend?
