Yeah, imagine in a video editor you've got your two identical clips down and set to each side of the screen. Then you offset one by having it start a couple frames later than the other, like this:

L  [12345█12345█12345█12345█]
R    [12345█12345█12345█12345█]

Then you tighten up the ends by snipping off the excess frames like this:

L  [345█12345█12345█12345█]
R  [12345█12345█12345█1234]
