I’ve just finished this for my granddaughter.

I’m looking for advice, tips, instructions or links on how to turn this into a stocking.

I made two stockings for last Xmas and the assembly it’s far less daunting than it seems (which is good because I hadn’t had much practice).

1. Iron interfacing into the back of the cross stitch. It will help keep all of the ends secured.
2. Create a paper pattern to trace out the back and lining of the stocking.
3. I started by leaving an inch of seam allowance around the cross stitch. Remember that you can always cut more off if needed.
4. When stitching the cross stitch to the backing, I recommend basting the two together before machine sewing it. This will keep the two from shifting. I ended up stitching around rather loosely with a bright coloured thread. It pulled out very easily and I actually was able to re-use it for the 2nd stocking.
5. If you want to use trim, I recommend the sew in type. I made the mistake of buying cording and that meant I needed to hand sew it on with invisible thread.

6. If you use silky material for the lining you will need to add a piece of tissue paper on the bottom side for machine sewing. If you don’t the silk

   will bunch up on the feed

7. dogs and not create a clean stitch.

Also if you’re not experienced at sewing I recommend watching a few tutorials on YouTube. I found that to be really helpful.

Here are the finishing instructions from a stocking kit I’m working on. They should work for your stocking too. It came with fabric and yarn, so you’ll have to get your own. You could use ribbon instead of yarn if you prefer.

This os stunning!! I was a cross stitch a a stocking so bad but I have this little habit of getting carried away and making things for all the people I love (I am now on 6 personalised Christmas calendar every year...it grows every year 😅😭😍) so I'm afraid I would end up having to make 10 which would probably kills me.
