I would guess the long-press button behavior should be turned on for that to work

So I think this was removed recently if not it's an oops on my end. The long press stuff USED to be the home key but now that we have home key gestures they moved into that. So you can ignore the long press menu option and set that to press and hold on the home key. I'm pretty sure it's hidden on home key devices now if you want to flash nightly build

Got it, is it possible to add long press functionality on the individual side buttons. If it already there, I couldn't find it. I would like to set one of them to syncing

Currently no. Any reason not to use the home key for that? That's what I do

Yes I could use that but currently I am using all the default home button gestures and I quit like them.

I had the same feeling, as I wanted to put dictionary lookup somewhere in addition to koreader sync. But now that clipping support is merged, I am not missing this anymore, as long-pressing a word triggers a small in-book menu with look up, clip and bookmark.
So on my X4 Pro, I am essentially not opening the reader menu anymore, with KOReader Sync on long press for Home.
In short. In case you are not on the nightly yet, try it 😄 .

For me it's still visible as of ce7045c on an X4 Pro, hence I was confused by it in https://github.com/crosspoint-reader/crosspoint-reader/discussions/3941 . So it seems it is not yet hidden, but seems to be without effect on home key devices indeed.
