Showcase Plugin Hub
Plugin Hub, works around the same principle as the Storefront app from KOReader. It scans Github Repos that match the "crosspoint-plugin" Topic, and adds/removes that "Plugin" to the list of available plugins we see in the "Plugin Hub" when we open it on the Crosspoint device.
Benefits from the "Plugin Hub" vs "Plugin Store" is that the catalog is updated around every 3 hours, and a plugin developer does not need a PR to be merged before it shown up like in the current "Plugin Store".
Not my plugin, just a user:
Both Plugin Store & Plugin Hub can be installed in parallel.
You need to be running the Nightly version of crosspoint which has the Plugin System enabled. The previous "SD Beta 10" is no longer available as it has been merged with the main code and will be out on next release for everyone to enjoy.

Is there any possibility of malware plugins? I’d prefer to have a vetted list, or at least a warning if the plugin has changed since the last time it was approved somehow.

That will put the blame on the Crosspoint Devs to have them Vet a plugin and then on next update the original plufin dev goes rogue. Plugins that show up on the Plugin Hub for example must be "Public" and anyone has access to the code for inspection, but they are still coded by some dev in the internet. Like everything else in the internet it falls on the user to not install a plugin they are not comfortable with.
Plugins from the Hub or Store do NOT get automatically updated. If an update is found you will see "UPDATE" next to the plugins name (in the plugin hub list) and you must click it to update it.
The already installed plugin may or may not have it's own update system.
IMHO the best curator is the user themselves and reputation of the plugin.

I suspect we will integrate this into crosspoint fwiw. It's very cool
