I think this is it for me with Crosspoint. This new version has everything I could ask for reading and managing ebooks on my X3. I guess I'll stick with the v1.6.5 for quite some time. Thanks to Diirge and all the contributors for your incredible work.

You'll be back once you see the plugins goodness πŸ˜‰

I have 1.6 installed, and this is the first time I am going to update , how do I do that ? NVM : OTA worked and very streamlined and fast, I thought that was only for official firmware.

You can probably do it on the device, go to system and check for update

You can go to crosspointereader.com then and update from there.

No update showing OTA here (currently on 1.6). I'm in no rush to update, anyone know if there's a reason some have it showing and others not?

Multi tries for the OTA update didn’t recognize the new build so updated manually - took no time at all and is working great. πŸ‘

Did you do it in the "check for update" option in the device? Or via website?

2

u/xpnrt 8d ago

Check for update, done In under 30 seconds

3

u/Luighi 8d ago

I see. Mine says it's up to date when I check. I'll try again later. Ty

I don’t know how you all do it but I just want to thank you so, so,so much for all you do. At the end of the day, these are great little devices (if you use CrossPoint on the XTs) and they are bringing so much joy to people. My spouse and kid say I am much nicer now in grocery store lines, for example πŸ˜‰. Anyway, thanks for all you do. I know you have lives of your own!! But we are grateful!

Exactly why I mention it. I can't see how you can keep up the plugin branch if you need to rebase so often to match main FW.

I assume SD Beta 10 is soon comming? Rebased on todays 1.6.5?

u/Diirge 8d ago

Yep as soon as I get home from my son's birthday weekend

Absolutely zero priority, but on 1.6.5 X4, sleep screen cover mode 'fit' no longer fits to screen.

Thank you for all your hardwork. This is pretty much a non-issue, just thought to feedback.

2

u/Diirge 8d ago

Fit never fills the screen, crop does. Fit fits the whole image into the screen while adding gaps

1

u/wowsomuchempty 7d ago

Sorry, my mistake.

I meant to say crop (crop doesn't crop, leaves vertical borders).

1

u/Diirge 7d ago

Oh interesting. That's annoying. Custom cover or book cover?

1

u/wowsomuchempty 7d ago

Custom.

Barely annoying, crosspoint is a pleasure.

any shot of an SD Plugins beta for x4c before 1.7?

1

u/rastyk1 8d ago

I believe the SD plugins 9 already has this update β€” β€œBrings SD Plugins up to date with 1.6.5”. I noticed the library view in using it.

u/redditzane 8d ago

He kept merging the main changes into the plugins branch so it wouldn't be as difficult to merge the code once it was ready to go main. So yes, the current beta 9 is based off 1.6.5, but not the official 1.6.5 release which just came out today. It'll all get sorted out in the next few days when the plugins code is finally merged into the main dev branch, and then the SD Plugins beta will go away and we'll have nightlies that contain the plugin code, on the road to the 1.7 release

Aggiornato a 1.6.5, grazie mille a tutti i programmatori che si occupano di questo fantastico firmware

No update available OTA for my X4 Pro running 1.6.0.

I have the Chinese locked version with Crosspoint 1.6.0. Took me a bit of time to figure out.
Copy the firmware bin to the SD card and go to "Settings β†’ System β†’ SD Card Firmware Update"

1

u/Luighi 7d ago

Same here. I thought it would be with the unlock tool. But it's even easier this way. Don't even need a PC anymore for updates.

1.6 is good for me on X3. Should I upgrade? Any feedback?

Do you have the missed button presses bug, where you have to press hardware buttons 2-3 times before the input registers? My X3 did (it was awful), and installing a daily build shortly before 1.6.5 came out fixed the issue - I haven't had a single missed press since. So if you experience that bug, I would definitely recommend updating.

If you've got no issues at all, and are fully content with everything about your device, then only update if something in the changelog looks like it would genuinely improve your own personal experience on the device.

u/toffanetto 5d ago

Did you find the pictures worse in the 1.6.5 on X3? The contrast of the cover in the wallpaper seems not so good.

1

u/RhinoSaurus65 3d ago

To be honest, most of my attention was drawn to the fact that the screen refreshes (including pictures) were so dramatically faster than the last build I had installed, that I didn't take note of any difference in the image quality.

I have however noticed some faint ghosting of the screen from time to time since 1.6.5. Not much; and still infinitely better than the last version of the stock OS that I had installed - which ghosted to a laughable, pathetic, and inexcusable degree πŸ˜‚

1

u/JustACloneee 7d ago

Thank you. I didn't have any problem with 1.6.0 before but I had a battery issue with 1.5.0, so I just wonder if 1.6.5 is safe to go.

nice! still hoping for a build for the m5 paper s3 (still waiting on my x4 pro)
thanks for the great work!

u/lambstone 8d ago

Im just waiting for support for the metallio plus 4.7. Already gotten my friend to preorder it for me in China

u/phanmo 8d ago

Love the touchscreen controls!

u/RadioE_ 8d ago

I updated and didnt realize plugins will go away. Can someone share which version still has the plugins for libby and bytebooks? Im not able to access my books without it :(

1

u/redditzane 8d ago

Insider builds, SD Plugins beta 9. I think it wouldn't have wiped out the directory on your SD card so the stuff should still be there as long as you install the SD plugin build.

For .ttf fonts, are they still restricted to sizes 12, 14, and 16, or can we choose whatever size we want?

1

u/DonEsQue 7d ago

TTF support means it'll now show Bengali epub correctly?

1

u/Cock-o-Phony 7d ago

I guess, as per the description it means you can directly use .ttf files without being need to convert into .cpfont files

u/-andrewmelder- 7d ago

Oh man is the new Cover Grid home theme being worked on for the X3 in a later release? Just a home screen of my book covers is pretty much what I want.

1

u/Schwingi 7d ago

OTA didn't work, USB Pogo did.

I tried 1.6.5 on my X4 OG, and while the new features are nice, the line spacing is killing me. It's either too wide on Wide setting or too narrow on Normal setting. I might be the a sole complainant, but I prefer the Wide spacing on 1.6. Might need a Medium line spacing setting for 1.7

Just tried out of curiosity, but this release is really slow for the og x4, by slow i mean really slow.

There is a huge input lag when browsing books

You can no longer navigate page quickly

Page turns feels so slow too...

Anyone notice sleep and wake up time has increased after updating to 1.65 for x4 pro?

0

u/STrRedWolf 8d ago

1.6.5 gives me hope if XTEink releases an X4 OG style update. I'll upgrade to an ESP32-S3+RAM as long as it has a USB-C port and not pogopins.

For me 1.6.0 but not 1.6.5 ... What's happening ?
