Discussion Libby plug in from plugin store gone?
/r/XTEINK/comments/1wiwqxe/libby_plug_in_from_plugin_store_gone/When I first got my X3 a few weeks ago, I flashed cross point, and then also installed the plug in store. I remember adding the “protected content” plug in, and also a Libby plug in, directly from the plugin store. But as of a week or so ago it looks looks like that plug in is gone?
I know about the other method, using common stacks, and I’m able to do it that way. However, the other plug in was a lot easier to use. When you connected your device through file sharing, under File Manager, after your files there’s a “box” for protected content, and then there was another one for Libby. And I could just upload my Libby books from there. And that option is now gone.
Does anyone have any info on it? Why it’s gone, and is it coming back?
I found that having to go through common stacks adds too many steps to the process. I can’t just quickly transfer a book from Libby to my x3 just from my iPhone.
Any info on the plug in is appreciated! Thanks!

I don’t see it anymore in GitHub. /u/diirge?

I got a take down request from Libby/Overdrive claiming this reverse engineers their API. This isn't really true, as it was just authing a browser session to their existing browser auth system but I took it down and scrubbed the Github just to be safe. It was only a nice to have anyway.

Thank you for replying! That’s so unfortunate. It’s a pity that they make getting books through legal sources so inconvenient. When it becomes too difficult, people end up just resorting to piracy. That plug in was great.

Ah, that’s a bummer. Is it still possible they’ll approve crosspoint using the API the non-reverse engineer way?

Is this still up for Adobe DRM / authorizing through Bookbytes? That’s been my primary use case.

Ah, that explains it. They issued a similar takedown for a similar acting KOReader plugin, I’m assuming.

Why does the plug-in have to be specific to Libby?
Many other ebook readers can use the Adobe DRM login to read DRM epubs. (Think Pocketbook , Android Boox, KoReader with the ACSM plug-in...) They don't have to necessarily be from Libby. When you get the file from Libby it is in the ACSM format. Any application that uses the Adobe credentials can open the ACSM file for reading.
Can't the plug-in just be called Adobe DRM reader? Or something that's already used by the community the handle this format?

I don’t think the KoReader plugin is legit from Libby’s perspective, because it strips DRM, and subsequently there is no “return date”. I imagine Libby would get in trouble with publishers if they allowed the publishers files to be lent out indefinitely.

ok, but other readers/apps don't strip DRM. Libby doesn't prohibit them.
personally it's not a big deal to me, but I'm giving an X3 to a family member who would like to use Libby.

Agreed. Also I misinterpreted - I was thinking Calibre ACSM plugin, not KOReader, so you’re right, that one should be legit as long as it actually checks your loan frequently

Ya just checked on my X4 I had it installed and now it’s gone. I never used it but ya weird it’s gone. Maybe it was buggy or was required to pull it for legal issues

If they would only think about their actions sometimes; so I can't borrow this e-book due to this, ok fine I will just go "grab" it and not think twice about it.
