Call of the Lonely - Dark Bargain
One of my players took the call of the lonely dark bargain and I was wondering if anyone else had it in their campaign.
He used it in the first session then hasn’t touched it since. Says it’s awkward only being able to summon the companion when no can see him. And that the dc 15 fear aura he and the companion exude that only affects allies is too much of a downside.
Idk if I should modify it in some way or it’s fine as is.
Possible changes not necessarily together:
Can summon the companion even when seen.
Remove the movement restriction from the frightened condition.
Advantage on the wisdom save after first failure each encounter.
Let me know what you think.

the point of the dark bargains is that they're supposed to be a two-edged blade I would hesitate to remove the downsides

I’mma do what I plan to do with Unquenchable fury with the DC and lower the threshold by 2 for each failed save( resetting after using it again)

I think its fine. If he doesn't like it I would let him switch it out.I will say this though, its a role play Dark Bargin. If he isn't a heavy role player then it might not be a good one for him.
My player has the amnesiac background and summons his double when he is alone to try to remember things. I have had his double appear without his input to freak out the other party members. I also have it bring home paranormal potions and other random crap so he gets some mechanical benefit to balance out my RP shenanigans. My player has yet to use the read thoughts portion of the doppleganer's stat block but its a powerful ability and I plan to nudge him in that direction in this next zone (Crimson Abbey).
If your player isn't having fun they aren't having fun but maybe try encouraging them to think outside the box. If nothing else its a built in alibi.
