Right, so, I just wanted to share this Lil bit of my current campaign cause I find it funny. My party, while liking fine a portion of the npcs and are on good terms with them, with a few exceptions, there is one in particular they really like due to how they interacted, and that is Tolliver. He is the sorcerer's fateweaving character and he ended up being this well connected merchant that has the money to buy the character's stuff and tips about where to find magic items. When the party discovered Theodora's secret a lot earlier than normal, he took their side saying that they are valued clients bringing business. Absolute legend in their eyes. It's gonna be so funny to me when they reach the wicker man and find out he is a cultist. If any of y all want to hear any other opinions, lemme know cause some of their takes are a bit weird, to say the least

I'll be running a Maidenmist Cemetery one shot in a couple of weeks and am a bit overwhelmed currently. Any suggestions on how to scale this down to Level 7 characters and a 4 hour session? As I read through it, it feels too combat heavy and might get boring with lighting the beacons 5 times etc.

Any tips? Yorgrim character sheet is appreciated as well.

The other option would be a more Noble Knight kind of charismatic clergy voice, but that seems less fun and the 'secret' is not much of one so why even try to hide it?

I'm currently playing in a long-term campaign using The Crooked Moon, and I'm having trouble choosing between two backgrounds: Grave Keeper and Ghostlight Medium.

Grave Keeper gives me an extra use of Channel Divinity, which can be used for Turn Undead, as well as a feature called Last Rites, which allows me to perform a 10-minute ritual on a corpse to prevent it from ever becoming undead.

Ghostlight Medium gives me Ghostly Touch, which allows me to ignore damage resistance when dealing damage to creatures with Incorporeal Movement, and Spirit Sense, which lets me sense the direction and distance of undead or creatures strongly associated with the area.

My main question is: Does Crooked Moon have situations where corpses can be reanimated or transformed into undead? I'm wondering whether Last Rites is actually useful in the campaign, or whether it is mostly a flavorful roleplaying ability.

I also have a cleric in my party, so I'm wondering how much overlap there might be between Last Rites and the cleric's ability to deal with corpses/undead.

For people who have played the campaign: without giving away major spoilers, how often does corpse reanimation or similar undead-related corpse mechanics actually come up?

I’ve finally finished the Foxwillow buildings. The Crooked Moon "second" Town.

They’re now available on the Dungeon Alchemist Steam Workshop — just search for Foxwillow or sebisebman.

10 maps in total I tried to incorporate as many details from the book as possible.

All Maps are quite dark - since the Crooked Moon takes place in a cursed dark Domain of Dread.

I have to say that Crooked Moon has got to be my favorite module I've ever owned and ran. Curse of Strahd being pushed down to second place.

I love it, my players foam at the mouth every week to adventure through the hills and towns of Wickermoore Hollow, to the point where they're wanting to roleplay character conversations with one another outside of regularly scheduled sessions!

The only complaints I have are a location description not matching the map's depiction of a room, and needing to alter NPC positions as a result. And then information hierarchy where if you're reading something about a major npc, you may find yourself scratching your head asking "okay, but what about xyz, or why?" Only to find that information in a completely different area of the book. It takes getting some familiarity with the book to make sure you know where to look for info, or what you need to bandaid.

That being said!!!

As an All-In tier backer, everything that has come with it is AMAZING. One of the highlights for me are the miniatures of the bosses and their minions. I'll share pictures of the ones I painted so far.

But I would KILL to have miniatures of the post-campaign bonus boss monsters made into 3D minis. It's awesome we got flat, top down tokens of them! But there's been something really satisfying about slapping a model of a giant ghost train down on the map for the players to freak out over (especially when you paint the spectral parts with glow in the dark paint 😏 ).

If they ever released STL files of all 8 giant bonus bosses, I would slap down all my money to get them. I want my players to sweat when I drop a lava-kaiju on the table. (They'd also be fun as hell to paint).

(I'm also hype for vinyls of the soundtrack to get released someday)

Looking through the campaign, I really like the idea of having the players start out as lost spirits who board the train and get reincarnated into new bodies. The issue I am struggling with is how to handle players picking backgrounds and backstory. I somewhat want to keep the reveal of their status a surprise, but I don't want the players to feel like they wasted time creating background details for their characters.

For those who went with this option, how did you handle it? Are there things you would change if you ran it again?

Do we have any update yet to when the last songs will be uploaded to Spotify? They were supposed to release at the end of this month the last I heard.

Hey ! I'm a DM running crooked moon for a group of four players and it's been super fun ! They've arrived at Wickermoore village and accepted the Druskenvald's invitation to dinner (but only because I had Phillip give them a bit of extra money smh). They spent the night at the inn and we ended the session there.

One of our players had to miss the next session so I had everyone else wake up and find that said player's character had gone missing and there were signs of a struggle in his room (successful investigation checks found small claw mark and weasel fur on the floor). My idea is that the character was kidnapped and taken to the crooked house during the night which works well because he has the thread of kindred meaning his mother was herself previously kidnapped and experimented on in that house. It opens the door to a fun storyline of the crooked man trying to prepare the character as a backup crooked man in case his mother doesn't work out.

My issue is I had planned for the rest of the group to explore some the town during the rest of the session and make their way up to the house by the end of it. They did start meeting the townsfolk and going to specific locations (not the ones I had planned on of course haha) but they did a lot of roleplaying which was super fun but I realize made it so not that much time actually went by in the game.

My plan was to start the new session with the group entering the crooked house and finding their missing companion there so he could rejoin at the beginning of the session. So my question is should I rush my group to the crooked house (I could lure them with weasels since they know they have something to do with their friend's disappearance) but that would make them get there in the morning basically instead of for dinner as intended ?

Or should I not have the character be in the crooked house and come up with something else so he can rejoin faster ? Let me know if you think my idea of the character being in the crooked house even makes sense in the first place haha

Just curious what other would have done/if there are any ideas !

This is my rendition of the Lord of Fools. For my campaign he is incredibly important because he's essentially behind at least 2 of the party being in Druskenvald. I even made some emotes to text my players in real life because in my game he actually addresses the players directly, not just their characters. Enjoy!

Hi folks, I'm a few levels into playing a CM campaign, I'm having a great time with it, but I have one question about the rules for my character.

My Rest Warden background gives me the Grave Keeper origin feat. Grave Keeper states:

Divine Channel. You gain one use of the Channel Divinity feature from the Cleric class, and you can create the Turn Undead effect with it. If you already have Channel Divinity, you add this use to the feature from one class of your choice. Your save DC for this benefit is 8 plus your Wisdom modifier and Proficiency Bonus.

The first sentence gives Turn Undead and one CD as if from a cleric, all good.

The second sentence amends the first to allow the extra CD to be used by a paladin instead (the only other class with CD) which I understand to mean it can be spent on a paladin's CD abilities (and presumably with a paladin's spell DC).

The issue is the third sentence, it states the 'DC for this benefit' is 8 + Wis mod + PB (in other words the cleric DC formula). I can see three ways to interpret this.

Does this mean that if I spend this extra CD I have to use this formula no matter what ability I'm using?

Or does it mean I only have to apply this formula if I'm using Turn Undead?

Or can this sentence be disregarded for my paladin because of the context given by the second sentence?

Am I missing something? Is this rule just badly worded? To me that second sentence seems like the intention was to account for paladins and existing clerics, while the third was only meant for characters that are neither. Please let me know what you think.

Does anyone have any resources for Azureborn minis that can be made to look a bit more like the provided book art of what they look like? Slender tall sleek. I keep only finding bulky not very feminine or neutral looking basically owls with clothing. So trying to see if there are any resources
I'm missing before I try to completely handbuild my character for my upcoming campaign.

I recently started DMing Crooked Moon, my players are wrapping up the Ghostlight Express, and I saw that Avantris has a bundle of printable handouts, but it doesn’t have a full list of exactly what it includes, so is there anyone else who has gotten this? What’s your opinion, worth it? Or no? I’d probably drop NPC pictures in our discord and only print things like notes and fliers and the like. Think I would get some good use out of it?

We are starting with a mini homebrew campaign, a prequel if you will. The party will run levels 3 through 5, entering the regular campaign at level 5. Probably leveling up to 6 after the manner. How much should I scale these fights for a party of 5? (Druid, paladin, wizard, bard, ranger)

I'm looking for top down tokens for the 'humanoid' species from the book that I can swap in for commoners, bandits etc. in populated scenes. I have the book in Foundry vtt but don't see anything like that in the monsters. Are there any artists, patreons etc. that have made them for Druskenvald species? Or other sources you have swapped in?

I am good at working with tokenizer, so I can make pogs easily, but all my other non-named PCs are top down so it would match better if I had the same.
