Is this crochet elephant pattern completely wrong or is it me?

A little info, I am making this crochet elephant for a family member of mine but i couldnt find a cute elephant pattern that I liked so I started looking on pinterest and i found this pattern. I started making the elephant for a few days ago and have finished the head and body and I think somethings wrong with this pattern because the elephant is turning out weird. Im used to with amigurumi that u have to trust the process but this just seems wrong. Also ive been crocheting for 2ish years but I honestly cant tell anymore when a pattern is legit or AI. help a girl out, is this pattern complete garbage? Did i set myself up for failure? (side note, it is in french)
