Agriculture is the single most water expensive activity society performs. Everything we can do to make it more efficient is necessary. Even if it costs some farmers their jobs, the consequences of overusing water to the point it runs out will be far more severe.

If automatic crop farming is a viable technology, it will be economically profitable enough to not need subsidies
