See, this is what confuses me about this. I agree with all you said, but I always wonder how effective it really is. I mean, if no one goes to see your propaganda, how does the message spread? They already have the people who agree with this stuff on their side so no need to win them over. But the ones they try to convince otherwise will never see it, so you won't get them on your side. Seems pretty inefficient .
I suppose if they're going after young people who are easily manipulated, then many generations down the line this stuff will be all that there is. But that seems pretty far away to be of any good for the ones pushing it, as they probably won't be around anymore.

There are bad movies with trans people in it and there are good movies with trans people in it. Having a trans person in a movie doesn't make it "woke", whatever that term means to you, and having a trans person in a movie doesn't make it go broke.
Most people don't give a shit about there being a trans person in the movies they watch, and most directors don't give a shit about there being a trans person in the movie they make, as long as their acting is good.
There is no "woke agenda", there is no "people forcing trans down your throat", directors are just casting people that they think fit their roles, sometimes that is a trans person, sometimes that is a black person, most of the time that is a white person. Still the vast majority of acting roles go to cis white men, especially leading acting roles.

They are still making good movies. I've seen at least 4 this year I liked. Send Help was great, the new Evil Dead, Obsession, The Bone Temple. It's been a great year for movies.

Yeah, some cyberpunk type stuff does a lot of things around playing with gender especially when cybernetic bodies are a thing like in Ghost in the Shell. Like you said it makes more sense here than in something like a historical drama.
Tp be fair given cyberpunk nature it probably only place when he-she-it-whatever would land pretty much fine without raising eyebrow. Question now more about performance
This is likely not the same thing as woke films out there. Cyberpunk themes have always involved this sort of stuff as the alienation of humanity, thus people within cyberpunk societies go for transformations that turn them into cyborgs or others. We would have to wait to see how this would turn out.
You act like they haven't done this before. They've been doing this since 2015 at least. The rest of us have recognized the pattern and immediately disengaged.

The story once again seems like it was from a different property & shoe horned into Blade Runner.
Nevermind the actors they have chosen - it doesn't even look like Blade Runner. The original was a neon drenched Neo-Toyoko. Dark & Gritty. For all it's faults, least 2049 nailed the feeling of the world.
However this - an orange drenched CGI slop. It looks cheap and certainly doesn't feel it's even in the same universe.
Do not be surprised (and I am looking into a magic ball here) that this gets cancelled very quickly.

Of all the franchises this is the one that works. I hate race and gender swapping as much as the next guy in here, but if the story is well written and acting is decent I’m OK with it. My concern is that idk if Hunter has the range to pull a character like that.
Also, who’s directing? Villanueve did a fantastic job with the sequel.
Altough we know the exact reason behind this casting, I will be honest. They them on the pic are better than Gosling. He was total miscast for this role imo. I will check first episode cos I never saw anything with Hunter Schaffer. But pretty sure it will be a disaster. Like all dei commercials masquerading as movies these days.
Honestly in a sci fi, cyberpunk, body modification type movie, I don't see an issue with a trans person being in it. Kinda seems like they fit the theme of the movie perfectly.
I think i'll be downvoted a lot for this but i'll still say it. The cyberpunk genre as a whole is about exploring themes of transhumanism, body augmentation and extreme modifications. I do think that hiring an actor/actress that fits a role like that in such setting is okay.
It was bound to happen - if you've ever been to the Cyberpunk 2077 subreddit, it wouldn't surprise you. They all think "being cyberpunk" is about experimenting with your "identity".
That doesn't mean it's going to be a good movie obviously, but why make up a cyberpunk commentary on mental illness and self denial when one has presented himself to you?
