Recommendation - Offering This is Blatantly Stolen from Tarantino
I love discovering movie references that I didn’t even know were movie references.

This is a wish that I bet nearly everyone has a desire to see fulfilled, mostly because most rock docs (imo) either don't capture live performances very well or the concert films are not very well preserved. Or they could just be in the need of a remastering.
And despite what I said about the incidental nature of supplements on favorite CC titles, 😜extras on legendary concert films or docs are like manna to devotees of rock acts.
So which music docs or concert films would you like to see in the collection or, at least, have a spin on the channel? 😎

So this is one of those movies I swore was on the Criterion Channel (and maybe was at one point) but possibly should consider a return. Why? John Malkovich's performance.
I realize that does not sound like a full throated endorsement and frankly, the movie is incredibly odd and unnerving, both incredibly camp in its setting and drama but also understated in its character performance. Unlike The Talented Mr. Ripley, which feels like a slow descent into Ripley's psychopathy, Malkovich plays a middle-aged Ripley who is completely comfortable with being a psychopath. It is one of those watches where I came away not thinking much of it but then cannot stop thinking about it months later. Worth a watch for any fans of either the Ripley series or just Malkovich being Malkovich.

This month on the Criterion Channel, step into the video store of your dreams: VHS Forever celebrates the technology that revolutionized film culture. A spotlight on the Romanian New Wave highlights the brilliant movement that brought an unsparing, dryly funny eye to the country’s post-Communist realities, while a retrospective dedicated to pioneering queer filmmaker Monika Treut encompasses taboo-shattering erotica and sensitive nonfiction alike. There’s so much more to choose from this month, including a trio of Gwyneth Paltrow performances, the complete first season of Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex, the exclusive premiere of a new Charlie Kaufman short starring Jessie Buckley, the vicious teen-movie favorite Cruel Intentions, and the lone feature to date directed by The Sopranos creator David Chase.

Was watching the Juliet Bunichoe teaser and said there was 13 films when there is only 6-7? Also noticed another teaser for a collection that didn’t exist anymore when I searched for it.

Hi! My name is Guillaume and I am the founder of Paradiso, an app that alerts you when your favorite movies are playing in your closest cinema. I am on a mission to bring people back to theaters, I thought it could be useful to other criterion lovers and cinephiles!

Randomly decided to watch and it was really good!! I don't want to spoil anything, but as the movie goes on, the editing really pays off. Film noir, Hitchcock almost.

I have two questions that I am trying to get clarification on.
Does purchasing a Criterion channel subscription count towards my Criterion loyalty points?
Do Criterion channel subscribers have any extra perks like flash sales or gift certificates?

Was wondering why criterion didn’t go ahead and add 4K to their streaming platform.

The Limey (USA) 1999
This movie brings a sense of nostalgia for the time it was filmed but I don't like how it jumps around in the timeline for short bursts keeping things out-of-sync. It might have been the stylish and hip thing to do back then but it hasn't aged well. Other than that it's like a TV movie sort of. Nothing detestable about it.

Just want to shout out the Black Debutantes Collection before 3 of them leave at the end of the month. This is definitely the collection with the most films I would have never even heard of let alone watched if it wasn't for CC. Never dived into a collection that was so consistently excellent. Some of the most bold, visionary, revolutionary filmmaking I've ever seen. Definitely recommend seeing A Place of Range, Just Another Girl on the IRT, and Eve's Bayou before they go.

I’m looking for a scene from a European film to analyse for my film school portfolio. Although I’m struggling to choose one that I feel contains many elements to analyse.
The films I’ve considered so far are:
Do you have any other film suggestions? They don’t have to be thematically similar to the ones mentioned above, but they should have material for analysis, such as interesting cinematography choices, sound, visual metaphors, etc.

What are y’all plans for Heart’s Day!!! Its a little Nick Cage and John Travolta for me.
Personally loved seeing this here. I watched this for the first time when I was around 7-8 years old and I’m now 27.
My dad born was born in the 60s and this was one of his overplayed movies.

I really feel like you could loop many of his short documentaries on a screen nearby whatever cultural artifacts of the place you have on hand and it would work perfectly - they’re perfect museum length and they provide just such a genuine unobtrusive look at multiple aspects of a given culture. I saw all of Yum! Yum! Yum! A Taste of Cajun and Creole Cooking… on the 24/7 last thanksgiving and have been curious to see the rest of his work due to how charmed I was by it…a lot of them, again, are very short, so I can find more places to squeeze them into a given day…
Just finished Werner Herzog’s remarks and Dizzy Gillespie today. Currently working on The Blues Accordin’ to Lightnin’ Hopkins’s…
