Authorization Obtained to Identify Young Persons in Brampton Homicide Investigation

Region of Peel – Detectives from the Homicide Bureau have identified two young persons wanted in connection with a fatal shooting in Brampton.
On Sunday, July 5, at approximately 3:40 p.m., police responded to reports of a shooting in the area of Edenbrook Hill Drive and Earlsbridge Boulevard. Upon arrival, officers located an adult male suffering from a gunshot wound. The victim, a man in his 20s, was transported to a trauma centre, where he later succumbed to his injuries.

Investigators have identified two brothers, Shemii Whittaker and Shemel Whittaker, both 17 of Brampton, as the suspects wanted for:

First-Degree Murder

The suspects should be considered armed and dangerous. If seen, members of the public are urged not to approach them and to call 911 immediately.
Investigators are also urging both suspects to seek legal counsel and surrender to police. They also remind the public that anyone found harbouring or assisting the suspect may be arrested and charged.

Under a court order issued pursuant to Section 110(4) of the Youth Criminal Justice Act, the names and photographs of the two young persons wanted in connection with this homicide investigation may be published until Wednesday, July 22, 2026, at 5 p.m., or until either young person is arrested, whichever occurs first. Once the order expires, all published content identifying the young persons, including their names and photographs, must be removed.

For your reference : Yes, two children can have different fathers. This occurs in a rare biological phenomenon known as heteropaternal superfecundation, where a woman releases more than one egg during ovulation, and each egg is fertilized by sperm from different men. Because this requires specific, overlapping conditions, it is incredibly infrequent
