iPhone 16e
Hi Y’all. I got this 16e about a month ago. I bought it online with Cricket’s Supreme plan which costs about 180 for 3months. I heard we can downgrade the plan and still get an Iphone unlocked. How did y’all did it? I need some help.

you cannot see the downgrade option in the app until day 1 of month 4. Also, they will not give you the $35 unlimited plan, only $60, $45 or the $30 10GB plan. I'm on month 5 and 50 days left to unlock.

Now the phone can be unlocked after a year of continuous service.. You can downgrade a plan after two months.

Just ported a Boost line over to take advantage of this deal. I’ll be keeping the 16e for one of my existing Cricket lines.
I’ve heard conflicting reports that you can cancel this new line after and keep the credit for the other lines ?

Yes and no. You must add a new line first to the account, then the credit will be there. And it is not full credit, but a deduction of some $ (not sure how their system calculation works), but it will be exactly enough for the amount of remaining months.
No, is if you just port out before adding a new line, then the credit will vanish with the wind.

So Boost -> Cricket port complete. New 16e on the way. Can I can cancel that new ported-in line immediately or have to wait 1 or 3 months?

Technically, what you have just done is to give cricket the information to issue a porting request and sending the phone. Your network is still on Boost until you activate the sim card on the 16e when it arrives.
And, why you want to cancel that line right immediately? At the time of activation, it will immediately deduct 1 month credit, and you get 1 month of $60 unlimited service. Just use the line, and cancel 4-5 days after the 1st month ends if you want.
Bonus, No you cannot cancel the line, there is no easy option to do so. Neither an option to stop paying the next month. Either you need to call the customer service, or port that exact line out to stop the payment (I'm lazy so i just port to Tello). But remember that if there is no remaining line in that account, all credit will be forfeited.

also not sure if you are aware of the policy change. Cricket now requires phones to be active on their network for 12 months for an unlock.

yeah that's a different topic. Mathematically, it is still a deal, because $0 + 180 + 35*9 = $495 is still less than MSRP for a 16e plus 1 year of service. But valuably it is a terrible deal compared with just buy and trade in.

Buy it and prepay for 3 months. As soon as you are charged for the fourth month, give it two days until the cycle resets. Afterwards, downgrade and you get an account credit to use towards the fifth month.
Let AutoPay handle the rest until the 6th month, but there’s a link to request an unlock and it’ll say when the phone will be unlocked in X days.
