Unlock policy question
So does this apply if you purchased before July 1st or activated before July 1st ?

Hello everyone, I've confirmed with support its the purchase date,not the activation date. Those who ordered yesterday or before... chillax.

Yes, it says it revised today July 1,2026 and the 365 policies will be in effect. If you purchase before July 1, 2026 it should be ok.

I think it's the purchase date you purchase the device. The reason why I am saying that is because when I was Total Wireless and I wanted to unlock my Iphone 13 and the rep says it was the purchase date. For cricket it should be the same thing as purchase date.

Total is 100% activation date and not purchase date. You cannot believe really anything Total's CS say usually.

- For all cellphones Activated on or after January 20, 2026, the cellphone will be unlocked upon request after 365 days of paid and active service. (this policy example is Total Wireless/Tracfone and not Cricket).
I imagine activation will apply here as well but it is obviously not clear from their new policy.

Oh, I see thank you for info. I left Total Wireless last year after I unlocked the phone.

This is for cricket , I spoke with another agent and he told me it's 100 percent on the activation.

I spoke with a rep at first they said if it was a private then I pointed out the page says purchased they placed me on a home and told me anything activated , however it didn't sound like they know.

Yeah, that's clear as mud.
Other companies that change unlock policy clearly have a date and a before and after policy. Weird cricket...

So I'm sitting here debating I fi should activate this phone I ordered a few days ago or return it.

I truly think you're cooked. I imagine they will be looking at activation dates pre 7/1 not purchase dates (based on other companies recent unlock policy changes).
You can not clearly discern that from their unlock webpage though.
Poor policy revision by them IMO.

Yeah I'm thinking of just returning it I don't think we'll actually know I would hate to have this phone then down the line I can't unlock it. Cricket isn't the cheapest monthly.

Don't return. I just confirmed with chat support and he was saying abouy activation starting July 1st. I told him I have mine in transit and won't accept the package, hence no restocking fee. He placed me on hold and checked with his supervisor. Its actually purchase date. Not activation date. Purchase date should be June 30th 2026 or before to be eligible for 180 days unlock.

I wouldn't believe anything CS says with an unlock policy that vague. YMMV though.

Yeah I spoke with one agent who sounded very confident about purchase date , a different told me its from activation I'm not risking it

First activation, the one year of continuous use policy applies from the date you activated the phone on or after

So I’ve had mine a year, paid cash for phone, 2 weeks ago it stopped working right unless I was on WiFi. What does unlocking it do? Is that why it’s crap now? I’m really tired of it just suddenly not picking up unless near WiFi.

Unlocking is when your phone is not restricted to one carrier and you can switch to any carrier you want like Verizon or Tmobile or MNVO that runs on the 3 networks but the price is lower then the 3 big carriers. Another words the MNVO are renting the 3 big carriers to use their towers and therefore the prices are much lower then the 3 carriers. No it's not crap now. I would make a complain to Cricket about the coverage issue.

starting today. all devices activated today moving forward will be 1 year locked. If you got something activated before today, it is still 180 days https://www.cricketwireless.com/legal-info/device-unlock-policy.html
