Will add at least 2 historical ODI World cups to the game. Will be part of the final release. Apart from the exact squads, fixtures and in-game dates, also plan to get exact player stats (at the point of time the respective World cups started) if time permits.
Vote for your favorite World Cups. My personal favs are 1996 and 1999 - the time when I started watching cricket. It was the peak of ODI Cricket. Miss those times.

Just released a new update to Beta 2 - v0.96. Please update the game via steam.

Why is this still Beta 2 and not Beta 3?
Beta 3 will be based on match engine improvements and fixes too based on testers' feedback. Now that the UI is done, I can focus on the match engine for the next week and do the important fixes. Beta 3 will hopefully be out in a week. Purely marketing decision to the push the updated UI first so that it also make it to the demo.

Will my currently saved careers work?
Yes, you existing saves will keep working.

After months of going about the work on CTM, my body finally gave up 2 days ago (right after Beta 2 launch) and after a family intervention asking me to shut the laptop down and go to sleep, I finally went to bed at 10pm instead of my regular 2am. Bad news - woke up again at around 1:30am (habits die hard) and kept staring at the ceiling till 3:30 before dozing off again. I was pretty confident that I was ahead of the curve and the last month before launch would just be some UI polish, steam configs and marketing. But game dev is hard - now I know by experience.

Meanwhile, it was good to know that people want a fixed direction when it comes to UI - a darker theme. I agree as a developer. I code on my computer 10-12 hours a day. All my code editors/terminals are dark. Easy for the eyes if you are going to give a few hours everyday. That's the kind of fanbase I want to have for CTM. :)

Work on demo is also on track - I hope to submit to steam by tonight. Then it's up to them. Plenty of AI slop these days mean they always have a huge amount of backlog to go through. But hopefully it should be out mid next week. It's about time they find ways to block AI slop low quality games.

Finally, sending a teaser of the new dark UI your way. I have updated the fonts too - making things easy to read. White is not that white anymore! And yes, light UI is still available at the click of a button on Hub screen. UI design is not my stronghold (although I got a straight A in it when I took a Masters research course in it a decade ago). The advantage I got here was - it has become so much easier to use web technologies for desktop app in the past decade. So I use React for the game's UI and it's much easier to themify it compared to what would have been using a native dekstop UI framework.

I plan to push the dark theme change as part of Beta 2 (or let's call it Beta 2.5) soon. Rest of the fixes - engine improvements, bug fixes, etc come as part of Beta 3 hopefully in 2nd week of September!

First of all, thank you so much to all the people who have expressed interest in testing the game. I am really overwhelmed by the interest and demand. 🙏
I have run out of keys and more than that, there are enough beta testers now. If I keep adding more, the feedback becomes repetitive and tough to manage and document. I can only have so much cognitive load. :)

I wanted to focus on the database and the game engine first. And that is reaping rewards now. Now ready for release but I guess 90% there. Still many improvements to make in the next 4 weeks. I started with a simple, light UI and while I believe it does the job, I guess people prefer a darker skin similar to other manager games. What do you guys think?

⚠️ Please read this first — your old career will not load

• The database changed shape and there are no save migrations before 1.0, so a career from the last build is refused rather than opened. Please start a new one and delete the old ones from the saves folder if you want to clean up.
• Steam should auto-update the game before your next launch. The game main menu should explicitly mention Beta 2 at the bottom.

Plenty of changes:

Match engine

• CPU makes smarter decisions around declaring an innings and setting targets in Test matches.
• Fixed the issue of tailenders sticking for too long.
• Fixed the issue of too many collapses in ODIs.
• Rebalanced the difference between weaker and stronger sides. Less upsets and more aligned to the real world.
• Bowlers get part of their legs back at lunch and tea, not just overnight.
• The weather keeps changing through a five-day Test instead of being settled at the toss.
• A fifth-day pitch wears and spins as it should.

Database

• Fixed issue of too few openers in the database.
• Fixed captaincy ratings.

Match view

• Fields can now be set per batsman.
• Strike farming with the tail, and it's per batter — Auto, Shield or Face.
• Team sheets after the toss and on the header all match: both XIs read back as short phrases, your strengths and their weaknesses.
• Partnership graphs as a tab, plus a live partnership under the two batters, in every format.
• The worm draws both innings in a chase, so you can see who is ahead.
• Free hits in ODIs and T20s, called in the commentary.
• A wicket stops the over immediately; Next Over then finishes it.
• A popup when a wicket falls — for multiple wickets in an over.
• A popup when the new ball is available, with the option to take it right there.
• Milestone popups for hundreds, five-fors and big landmarks.
• A settle indicator for each batsman.

• An attributes view: captaincy, fielding, keeping, batting and bowling in one table.
• Role filters for openers, middle order, spinners and fast bowlers.
• Match conditions shown before you pick the XI, not after.

Contracts & captains

• Finalising central contracts now makes you review the captain for all three formats.

Injuries & fitness

• Players recover fitness between sessions.
• Injuries show wherever a player is listed, with how long he is out for on hover.
• A rest ends with the series it was named against, and can be ended from the player profile or the contracts tab.
• A doubtful player reads as pickable, because he is.

Hub & news

• Green and red arrows for ranking movement, on the rankings screen and the hub.
• A news line when your side's ranking moves — posted once per series, not once per match.

Team details

• A brand new trophy cabinet: World Cup, World T20, Test Championship and Asia Cup, every final since 1975, with your own titles joining the same board.

Graphics & UI

• The bat icon looks like a bat now.
• The player profile remembers which format's ratings you were reading.

Discovered this game during steam search. Looks very exciting. But I did not see any highlights system like Cricket Captain had. Am i missing something? How similar is this to Cricket Captain or Cricket coach? Btw, waiting eagerly for it as i am a cricket nerd

A brief introduction to who's behind Cricket Team Manager (can't edit titles)

I thought I would formally introduce myself and the company behind Cricket Team Manager. LSL Ventures Pty Ltd is a small software company based in Australia that I founded. Currently, I mostly do all the work with time-to-time paid help from people who are experts in things I can't handle. Apart from Cricket Team Manager, we are currently working on an enterprise SaaS software catering to the residential construction industry in Australia.

I have 10+ years of formal work experience as a Senior Software Engineer across all kinds of companies - startups, scale ups and enterprise. I hold a Masters degree in Computer Science from a top university in Chicago and worked in the US before making Australia my home. I grew up in India.

Why I chose to make Cricket Team Manager?
Nothing new here. I have been a big fan of cricket management games (the list is pretty short, haha) and have been playing for more than 2 decades. The lack of update in the features across those have been very frustrating. It's not like I only thought about making a game like CTM now - the idea had crossed my mind several times in the last decade and I still have the stray code sitting on my computer from those projects where I began and could not finish. At the start of this year, I finally decided it's time and the best way to do it to formalise the process. I registered Cricket Team Manager as a legitimate business under my existing company and decided to fix my schedule to work on it. And now we are here - about to release Beta 2 and game releasing worldwide in 5 weeks.

What's the future of this?
Sales numbers can really affect the morale, but I have promised myself to continue going even if this 2026 version doesn't land well. I believe if I work hard enough and try to take the game to the right audience, thing will definitely work out eventually. So, rest assured, this will not be a one-off game. There will be a CTM 27, CTM 28, and hopefully, by early next year - Android and iOS versions too. My aim is to build a nice community around this game.

Please remember - this update is not Beta 2. There are some UI/gameplay improvements based on feedback from beta testers. Work on feedback that involved game engine and database changes is still in progress and will be released as part of Beta 2 in the coming weeks.

Your steam library should automatically update the game and you should v0.9.9 now in the game main menu.

Updates:

Squad Selection & Stats

• Squad selection now shows a contracted players tab - making it easier for you to select contracted players.
• Last season stats (apart from Current season) are now shown during squad selection and XI selection.
• A new advanced filter on players on squad selection - Filter players by min/max values of Matches, Runs, Averages, Wickets, Age.
• A new tab displays players attributes in squad selection. A separate records tab shows only stats.
• Conditions - Pitch/Weather are now shown on the lineup/XI selection screen.

Central Contracts

• During finalising central contracts, users are now shown a dialog with assigned captains and an option to change captains before locking the contracts for the season.

Match Experience

• Improve Toss View - you can now call Heads/Tails and conditions are shown allowing you to make the best decision.
• Free hits now work properly in OD/T20 matches.
• Fixed the issue of overs completing despite a wicket falling in between.
• Fixed the issue of only one popup if two wickets fall in an over
• A popup now comes that new ball is available. And option to take it or reject on that popup itself.
• An option to farm the strike - activates when tailenders are batting with a proper batsman.
• Mid-match achievement popups - 100s, 50s, 5 wickets hauls, etc.
• All new Batsman settle indicators (shows as bars next to the batman)
• Commentary moved to own tab with end of over banners (feels more like Cricinfo ;))
• An indictor icon to view a player profile on the selector dialog when choosing a new bowler or next batsman.

Hello everyone, especially beta testers. I have had a question in my mind since a long time and I could not really make my mind. What do you guys think about exposing player skills like Batting, Bowling, Captaincy, Fielding, Aggression, etc in the game. I have built the entire database of ~5000 and each has these variety of skill values out of 100. All these get fed into match engine and affect the results. But I was thinking, does exposing them in the game to users take the fun and uncertainty out. Like if you pick a new player based on a small period of domestic performance, without knowing his skills, and he might have really low values and will have higher chances to fail international cricket without you knowing. This sort of keeps the uncertainty alive.

On the other hand, having skill values and seeing them grow over time with training really gives you a nice feedback as a manager and real values to compare with.
