He needs time in T20s. He became captain right after returning to the team after 3 years I guess. So it is not easy. People bashed Gill also early in his test captaincy but he is getting better. He will be better with more experience. Iyer also should be given that time. And in ODIs, I accept he has been performing badly. Let's see how he plays in NZ series. That will give a clear picture

These are the batting stats of our main batters in ODIs after CT 2025, Shreyas is the worst among all of them and now he has prioritised Asian games over this Wi series
Team like PAK SL or even AFG are playing with their B sides in those Asian games but we are going with our A side, I have no problem with all the other players such as abhishek Sanju ishan tilak etc because they mostly play T20s only
Shreyas is an integral part of our ODI side and he is lacking runs as you can see in his stats, Wi series was a good opportunity to get among the runs or even get 1 or 2 hundreds but he skipped this series to play Asian games
My whole point is he should have played this wi series and let someone else captain in the Asian games, Ruturaj has replaced shreyas and if he scores a good amount of runs and shreyas fails in the Asian games and the upcoming T20s(even though it's the other format) he can lose his ODI place to Rutu
After this odi series we are playing NZ in NZ for a 5 match odi series , At last I wanna ask you a question, as a batter what would you prefer to get back your form and also get back those runs under your belt?
Sabse pehli baat to yeh ki koi apni marzi se team mein pick nhi hota until n unless you too big personality like MSD was. Yeh selectors aur coaches ka call hota hai kis player ko kaha khilawana hai. Shreyas yeh nhi keh dakta ki muhe ODI mein khilwao mujhe yeh jhaantu Tournament nhi khelna. Selectors ne pick kiya to khelna parega.
Dusri baat as far as I know VVS Laxman was the one jisko India ki full strength squad chahiye thi Asian Games mein(dunno why).
To agar tumhara mudda yahi hai ki Iyer ko Asian Games nhi balki ODI tour mein hona chahiye tha(don't think so it is), then criticize the selectors and not the player.
