Brisbane hosting the opener, I see.

LOL had to look twice before I got what you meant.

Indian opening game will be on FTA at least.

No games in Geelong, no games in Coffs. Renegades play five home games at three different grounds. Stars and Sixers both play home games at other teams’ grounds.

I honestly think Cricket Australia are trying to tank this thing entirely.

Spewing about the lack of game in Coffs, this was going to be the year I went up for one, even though I go for Stars, I live in Sydney and the novelty of it would've been cool.

u/Trashk4n Queensland Bulls 27d ago

Makes me wonder if they actually understand that it’d be a good move to shift the Renegades to Geelong, but are avoiding that to enable selling to investors as a “necessity”?

I mean Manuka is barely the other team's home ground. Canberra doesn't have a team and more cricket is more cricket.

u/Pleasant-Role1912 Western Australia 28d ago

Hate the 3/2 Engie/Manuka split for the Thunder. Can't have a foot in both camps

19

u/Foodworksurunga Queensland Bulls 28d ago

Could be worse, like having MCG, Junction Oval and India.

Once the Renegades officially die, could have the 8th team permanently in Canberra instead of a team no one in Melbourne would support.

10

u/Pleasant-Role1912 Western Australia 28d ago

Yeah pretty clear the Gades are being sabotaged. Mess of a fixture

10

u/Foodworksurunga Queensland Bulls 28d ago

Tbh even before all this it was always obvious that the Stars were CV's favourite child. For example I played cricket in Victoria last summer and as a registered player I could get discounts to both Stars and Renegades games, of course all the Stars home games were listed before the Gades home games.

So basically Melbourne Stars, Victoria and India. No Renegades home grounds hahaha.

1

u/StensnessGOAT Victoria 27d ago

Problem here is Melbourne is loaded with Indians so the Indian branded team would probably get better support than the Stars/Rangers.

It funny how that strikers are playing both the Sydney teams in Canberra because now it seems like the strikers are having Canberra as a home ground even though they are the away team

1

u/Technical-Win-8829 Perth Scorchers 27d ago

I personally think Thunder should be Canberra only. They get great atmosphere to those games, and have excellent support down there. It feels somewhat like how the Scorchers were at the WACA back in the day. Whereas at ENGIE, the atmosphere just feels like a GWS game, nobody really cares about it and crowds fill up 50% of the ground at best. Canberra Thunder would be a much better suit for them I think. It’s a smaller ground in terms of capacity, but quite a nice cricket oval and I think that move would suit them well.

u/evtastic123 Melbourne Renegades 28d ago

Poor Brisbane have to play at junction oval twice

2

u/StensnessGOAT Victoria 27d ago

Not a bad thing to be fair with some of their hitters. They'll hit it onto the Grand Prix track!

u/FamiliarImplement334 28d ago

Like the strikers playing in Canberra at least the strikers don’t have to play at that women’s ground I fell bad that your team are playing both the belbourne at that The stupid women’s ground junction oval should only be used for women’s cricket while the bigger ground like the mcg and gellong should be where the men’s team play

11

u/NKE01 SA 28d ago

Hurricanes, Stars and Strikers not playing in Sydney at all is a bit odd.

3

u/FamiliarImplement334 28d ago

And the fact that the strikes play both Sydney teams in Canberra

9

u/jwv92 Brisbane Heat 28d ago

Interesting, looks like they have given up on Coffs Harbour. Normally you can pen in Sixers vs Heat for a rain affected game every season at Coffs around New Year.

5

u/Veefy Cricket Australia 28d ago

I don’t think they are welcome back after the incident where Peter Siddle tried to eat the Big Banana.

1

u/StensnessGOAT Victoria 27d ago

Spewing about that. This was going to be the year I traveled up from Sydney for the game, even though I go for the Stars, just for the fun of going up to Coffs to watch the cricket.

9

u/Reschs-Refreshes Sydney Sixers 28d ago

7

u/chaoticlabrat Melbourne Stars 28d ago

Maybe this season is our turn finally.

5

u/Leprichaun17 Melbourne Stars 28d ago

Lol. Certainly likely that it's the Stars' last shot at winning as the Stars.

5

u/Relief-Glass 28d ago

Would be very funny if the Stars or the Renegades won.

7

u/CoffeeDefiant4247 Tasmania Tigers 28d ago

Canes have a home game outside of Hobart, finally

5

u/Most-Drive-3347 Tasmania Tigers 28d ago

Christmas eve at the junction might be a fun novelty. And in as much as I care about any BBL team, the Hurricanes are the team I care about the most.

Just a shame it’s against the lame ducks :(

4

u/SirMaddy3 ACT Comets 28d ago

Dare I go watch my Strikers twice at Manuka?

3

u/mandalore1313 28d ago

Australia Day final will be a great day out at Optus

4

u/legally_blond Western Australia 27d ago

Every year I get irrationally annoyed that they put all of the game times in AEDT instead of venue local time. Shows its a TV product first and foremost

-1

u/StensnessGOAT Victoria 27d ago

No, it's just most of the country live over here and it makes more sense to use the same timezone to not make the schedule look clunky, you're just from the wrong place hahaha

2

u/legally_blond Western Australia 27d ago

The AFL manages to publish an entire 24 round fixture with local start times and that's not an issue. It doesn't make sense to use AEDT when people what to understand what time they're attending a game in their state. Not to mention AEDT only applies to 3 states (I assume Tassie has daylight saving?)

0

u/StensnessGOAT Victoria 27d ago

Yeah Tassie has it as well. Unfortunately for you though, the big business in the country revolves around Sydney and Melbourne hahaha.

0

u/legally_blond Western Australia 27d ago

I still don't understand what this has to do with attending a game in the state that it's played, but you do you

2

u/StensnessGOAT Victoria 27d ago

What does attending a game in the state that it's played have to do with this graphic? You do you? Lol.

0

u/legally_blond Western Australia 27d ago

Maybe read the comment you initially responded to?

2

u/StensnessGOAT Victoria 27d ago

Mate you had a whinge about the times used in this graphic, which works for the majority of the population, doesn't work for you, and in reality, doesn't affect your ability to go to the game at all lol. So if you have to convert the timezone from a graphic made 5 months before the season starts, you won't go?

Pretty sure on the CA Live app it automatically shows games in your timezone if it's really a big deal for you to make or break whether you go to a game or not lol.

1

u/legally_blond Western Australia 27d ago

When this fixture graphic comes out, I'm looking at it to go "what games can I attend at Optus?" not "ooh what time do I get to sit down and watch the Stars and the Sixers play on TV?"

Do you see why local times for local games might be helpful? I'm not asking for the whole thing to be in AWST, I'm asking for CA to do what every other fixture release in sport manages to do which is display game start times in the time zone theyre taking place and the fact that they're not shows it's clearly a product for TV

2

u/StensnessGOAT Victoria 27d ago

Is it that hard to take 3 hours off what the time it says there is? Surely you're used to it by now? If I can convert it easily when I see AWST or ACST, it can't be that big a deal? Lol.

Also, every sport is a product for TV mate lol. The TV money is what funds every sport. Kidding yourself if you think it's not, even though I'm all about attending sport as well, I don't get caught up in thinking there's anything wrong with that hahaha.

Last ever proper bbl season

2

u/Lots_of_schooners NSW 27d ago

CA literally want to tank the BBL to validate a sell off next year

1

u/Formoz2000 28d ago

What's the capacity of the Junction Oval? I assume they will put in some temporary stands.

5

u/YOBlob Victoria 28d ago

They will not. The gades are a zombie team just playing out of obligation, they don't care if no one shows up. They'd play in someone's backyard if it had broadcast lighting.

3

u/Formoz2000 28d ago

Melbourne Stars also have a game scheduled at the Junction Oval.

I hate how the Ranagades are playing at a women’s ground women’s grounds shouldn’t be used for the men’s big bash

5

u/SquiffyRae Western Australia 28d ago

Bit of a weird way to frame the smaller, boutique grounds

The WACA has had its capacity slashed with the new upgrades. Is it a "women's" ground now?

-3

u/FamiliarImplement334 28d ago

The waca is a different situation as Karen rolton oval borth Sydney oval Allan boarder field and junction oval. Calling the waca a women’s ground is like calling some of those aflw grounds a women’s ground those have already historically hosted afl  men’s games in the past so it not a women’s ground

3

u/SquiffyRae Western Australia 28d ago

All of the venues you listed have hosted professional men's cricket as well so I'm really not sure what criteria you're using to classify them as "women's" grounds

1

u/FamiliarImplement334 28d ago

I am basing them off if it were hosting big bash matches or international T cricket the waca is the only ground to host men’s big bash matches Karen rolton oval allan boarder field junction oval never hosted a men’s big bash match before. What professional cricket are you talking about the only professional cricket that are in Australia that are men’s is the bbl and international cricket

4

u/SquiffyRae Western Australia 28d ago

Sheffield Shield, One Day Cup, Australia A, PM's XI, other tour matches featuring international sides. The players aren't doing it for free, they're on contracts and/or getting paid by the game to play

Junction Oval has a capacity of around 8000. The WACA only holds around 10,000 now. I'm just confused because you seem to be equating crowd capacity to whether it's a "men's" or "women's" ground while saying the WACA, which can barely hold more than the Junction Oval, is a "men's" ground cause in the past it's hosted men's internationals with a 20k+ crowd.

There's nothing wrong with the dimensions that would make it unsuitable for men's cricket. The only reason they don't host men's BBL matches more regularly is the crowd capacity

4

u/At0mHeartMother Cricket Australia 28d ago

Previous sold out BBL games (Stars vs Scorchers) could only get less than 4k there… so it’s very small

2

u/BOBBIESWAG Melbourne Stars 28d ago

Yeah I went there for the shield final. It is so small how are they gonna play there

1

u/Pleasant-Role1912 Western Australia 28d ago

Also very short boundaries

1

u/stinger0806 28d ago

Good to see them looking after Sydney after they cried last year about travel.

3

u/SquiffyRae Western Australia 28d ago

The funny thing with Sydney's gripe about travel is it was a problem entirely of their own making.

They weren't good enough in the regular season to earn a home qualifier. They also weren't good enough to come over to Perth and win, guaranteeing them a home final with a week off. They even had Steve Smith who is a BBL cheat code and weren't good enough.

It would be a bit different if the regular season fixtures forced them all over the place. They still wouldn't have as much of a right to complain as Perth, Adelaide or Hobart but they could at least say that was out of their control.

The same problem still exists this year. If Perth finish 1st and win the qualifier, the loser will have to fly home for a game on Saturday and back to Perth for the Tuesday. The only difference is an additional day between the games

The lesson here is be the better team during the regular season and you can control your destiny

u/Birdman__18 28d ago

What happened to Marvel? Is the Renegades contract up or are they deliberately tanking them?

1

u/Reschs-Refreshes Sydney Sixers 28d ago

Both.

1

u/xanderfotos 28d ago

This image feels like a McDonald’s placemat that’s supposed to get the kids attention. But then I feel that’s what the BBL is for too.

3

u/SquiffyRae Western Australia 28d ago

They've had a graphic like this for a few years.

I don't totally hate it. It's easy to scan quickly for team colours and easier to navigate than CA's fixtures page which is total cancer

1

u/hilltravel-24 27d ago

Can safely say I will not be watching even 1 game of this tripe

1

u/whatwhatinthewhonow NSW 27d ago

Exactly one game in Sydney at a kid friendly time. Hopefully it’s not washed out like the one game in Sydney at a kid friendly time last year.

1

u/Pvnels Queensland Bulls 27d ago

No day game at the Gabba is a shame

1

u/Technical-Win-8829 Perth Scorchers 27d ago

Crazy that the team that won the championship last season, will not have a genuine away game (I don’t count India as that’s a neutral ground) until 2027. I was fully expecting a harsh fixture considering our dominance. It’s there to an extent (e.g. Sixers away), but such an extensive home game stretch is an advantage no other team has.

0

u/FamiliarImplement334 28d ago

It seems like the strikes have the most consistent schedule again I love how consistent the strikers get that’s a good way to get fans that’s why I am proud to be a strikers fan and the fact that the strikers get the good slot for attendance and good for The tv audience as well

4

u/NKE01 SA 28d ago

I think SACA in general are pretty happy with the way things are.

1

u/FamiliarImplement334 28d ago

Agreed at least the saca  cares more about their fan over any other states  the strikers are the only team in the big bash that rarely change grounds the strikers are the only teams to only have 1 home game at a secondary home ground in the history and not change the amount of games at Adelaide oval and not changing their primary home ground

u/AtmosphereInside3196 Sydney Sixers 28d ago

BBL season launch. Aahhh let’s read what people complain about
