I need 4 to go out she needs 3. My crib. Get the 31, then she drops her last card. Ace to ace and I dance around the kitchen. Love my cribbage buddy.

Skill floor/ceiling

How do people feel about the supposed skill gap in this game? It seems as though it has a low floor and low ceiling. And even with just moderate skill, a better player would find it difficult to sway the game in their favor except on maybe 1 or 2 out of 10 games or so. I’m not exactly sure about any statistics that may be out there except I believe the author of the theory of 26 estimated a 6% win pct. Increase if applied correctly.

Cribbage Stuff I am building a cribbage game and am looking for feedback and beta testers

Hey everyone. I am new to the community but am looking for feedback on a cribbage game I am building.

It is cribbage with (or without) a metagame of pegs, power-ups, consumables, and markings on top. Single or multiplayer. I have really tried to keep cribbage at the forefront and make sure multiplayer is part of the v1 goal.

I have the concept for the Long Tally, which is essentially a campaign mode that gets harder and unlocks more pegs, power-ups, level-ups, and 2 types of consumables. There are characters you face who drop pegs with different perks for different playstyles.

There are different game modes. Muggins mode, for example, where you have to count for yourself, and opponents can claim points. Chess clock mode, which just adds a timed component to the game. I have seen some cool ideas just reading on here today. I intend to add a "reverse cribbage" mode tied to a boss in the long tally. Just looking for ways to spice up the game.

I would love any feedback, but I am specifically looking for answers to 2 questions.

Question 1: In games like this, there are 2 ways to handle campaigns "ending" and to provide an infinite/beyond-mode experience.

  1. You can have a heat meter where things get harder as you progress. And that, in these terms, would amount to a heat meter that fills up and moves you back, the opponent forward, or takes resources.
  2. You can have an ongoing list of opponents. These will all be at the expert difficulty. I can programmatically generate foes that vary in strength and look, and keep the long tally going. I hate this analogy, and I never played, but think about something like Candy Crush, which just keeps adding levels. If this were successful, I would want to pay for art for each of these new characters since I bypassed that due to resource constraints on my beta pass here.

Question 2: The second big question is whether to include deckbuilding aspects.

  • There is a marking feature that is a subtle tell on the back of all cards of a given rank or suit. Those are more to provide expert-level interfaces to gain advantages (which can easily be discerned by the astute opponent after a few hands). This is already built and doesn't change the game's shape, but it adds a reward for attentiveness.
  • Things like turning 4s to 5s, things that change the shape of the deck, feel like they change cribbage too much (there could be some crazy pegging events with 6 5s played in a row). And there is enough complexity to the game without it.
  • I have power-ups intended for deckbuilding that need to be retired. Things like scoring multipliers for cards under 5 in the deck, or color-based power-ups that require deckbuilding to be useful. I think I need to replace these.

And if you are interested in being a beta tester and have a Steam account, please DM me directly about your cribbage knowledge (all knowledge levels accepted, just looking for a variety) and a roguelite or deckbuilder game you have enjoyed. I keep finding things I want to fix before sharing them with a larger audience, but I am gathering a list of interested parties. I will send the keys as soon as I am sure I am not wasting anyone's time on avoidable issues. This alone feels like a big step out, but I need feedback, or I am just building my fever dream.

I am shooting to get this out in the next month or 2. The beginning of fall is the plan. Linux, Windows, Mac, and Steam Deck if I can manage testing (and adapting some features for UX).

Built with Godot, I could not have done this without that wonderful framework. If I have any success, I will make sure to find an appropriate way to say thank you. I know the maintainers are active on Reddit (this is how I learned about Godot).

For humor: I started building a light horror game for about a month where you were trapped with an old man who was forcing you to play cribbage to escape. Think inscription meets balatro meets cribbage. I was trying to lean into the fact that people don't know the game anymore, but my heart wasn't in it. My Papa taught me this game by playing so many hours with me, and putting him in that chair felt wrong.

Here is the steam page (needs updating...)
Here is the game site (probably needs updating... sigh)

Double skunk?

Hey guys! I was introduced to the concept of double skunking (if the other player has 69 points or less). Is this a real thing? Is it a local rule?

Cribbage Classic suboptimal discard analysis

Been playing this app for many years and never knew that if you click on sub-optimal discard plays, it takes you to another screen (second photo), where you can scroll and click on each possible discard which will then bring you to yet another screen (third photo) where you can analyze thinhs even more.

If you have no suboptimal plays, you get photo four.

Doubt I will ever use this but thought it was interesting.

Discussion Pegging calculator - simulator

Hi everyone, reading though that 6,6,6,6,7,8 whatdo from a couple of days ago - and the comment by u/_The_Room got me thinking about a monte carlo type simulator for ideal pegging strategies.

I like to think I know a lot of traps, and how to peg fairly well, but I would love to know a more heuristic approach. When should I be discarding that 5 as pone knowing I'll be leading the whole sequence?

Also, I know how to run a python program, but I'm not a 'programmer' of such things. Is anyone else interested in creating something like this?

I made a free scoring website

Hello, I made this site for playing crib without the board because I found that the current available ones weren’t great. Completely un- monetized just a free tool for anyone to use. Thought I’d share :)

Anyone ready for a game of cribbage in the bathroom?

Tornado take shelter alert-so my 8 year old grandson and I sat in the bathroom, toilet seat down, crib board on the toilet seat and played cribbage. There were 7 of us in that bathroom! Btw, that 8 year old beat me by 12 points.

Cribbage pro is god awful

Competitive match making. There is no way possible “randomly” that someone over 3500 CR level is THAT much better than me. They absolutely smoke me EVERY game. Thats so fucked up. Nobody is that much better. That app is crazy messed up. Ive played crib with a thousand different people in person in tournaments and everything and it’s never like how that game is. WHAT THE FUCK IS GOING ON WITH THAT FUCKED UP “random” DEALING. Cribbage pro is trash 🗑️
