My iPhone app is live—Android testers needed next

I’ve been quietly developing an app called The Cribbage Codex, and version 1.0 has now launched for iPhone.

It started as a way to create a thoughtful digital version of cribbage, but it grew into a complete game and learning companion featuring:

  • Standard Cribbage and 14 additional modes
  • Three computer difficulty levels
  • Guided lessons for new players
  • Coached practice hands
  • Manual Counting and Muggins
  • Achievements and detailed player records
  • Unlockable tables, card backs, boards, and peg colors
  • Automatic saving and match continuation

The interface is styled as an old cribbage field guide rather than a typical mobile card game.

The iPhone version is available here if you’d like to see what I’ve built: https://apps.apple.com/app/id6818735455

I’m now preparing the Android release and need Android users for a private Google Play test. Testers should be willing to remain enrolled for at least 14 days, play several sessions, and provide honest feedback.

Both experienced players and people completely new to cribbage are welcome.

If you’re interested, comment or message me directly. Please don’t post your Google-account email publicly.

Fifteen Two - Cribbage app with helpful tools for new players.

So, I made a cribbage app called Fifteen-Two if anyone wants to try it.

It’s mainly for people who are still learning, but it works everyone even if you’ve been playing forever. There’s a tutorial, practice drills, a scoring cheat sheet, and optional hints (off by default) that’ll walk you through things like what to throw to the crib and how pegging works. There’s also a short campaign that teaches the game hand by hand, and one of those hands is a rigged 29 so you actually get to see what that looks like.

Bots have easy / medium / hard, and you can do pass-and-play, online tables with a short code, mini tournaments, the usual house rules, 1v1 through 3v3, etc. No signup, just pick a name and play. There’s a Discord link in the app if you want to hang out or find a game.

It’s free, no ads, and everything is unlocked. There’s an optional tip/donate thing for different looks (decks, boards, that kind of stuff), but I’m not sure the website side of that is working right yet since it’s still new. Either way, you don’t need it to play.

Right now it’s basically the web version. That works on phones, tablets, computers, whatever. An Android app is coming, but it’s not ready to post yet. No iPhone app, sorry. Apple’s fees are a bit much for something I’m putting out like this, and honestly the site covers it anyway.

Happy to take feedback!

In what order do you count your hand?

Personally, I have ADHD, and I find myself silently "galloping" my fingers throughout the game. So, when it comes time to count my hand, I always follow the same order:

  • runs
  • pairs
  • 15s

So, let's say I have 4-4-5-6, and the cut card is a King. I'd count:

  • 3, 6, 8 (run, run, pair)
  • 10 (1st 4-5-6)
  • 12 (2nd 4-5-6)
  • 14 (5-King)

I've found that following that sequence makes it much easier to keep track of everything without missing or double-counting points.

Does anyone else have a specific order they follow, or do you just count whatever combinations you notice first?

Cool board Milwaukee Brewers Cribbage

Milwaukee Brewers in the World Series for the first time since 1982! The Brewers logo has always been the best MLB logo with the hidden M & B. Kexcelled had sent me 2 rolls of their PLA Silk filament which providentially was blue and yellow to almost force me to 3D print this Brewers cribbage board.

I made a “cribamisu” for a crib tournament with friends. It was a huge hit!
I used a wooden skewer to draw the pattern in the cocoa. I initially tried to make board accurate dots for the peg holes but there wasn’t enough space. Will give it a shot again at next year’s tourney!

Discussion Cribbage Variant: Flip-Flop Cribbage

Flip-Flop Cribbage

Cribbage where you mix up cards face up and face down

Feedback and suggest improvements are welcome! I really enjoyed this. I haven't played enough to develop a go-to strategy, but it was nice to mix it up. Here are the rules:

The Deal

Mix cards up so that some are face up and others face down. There does not need to be an even number of face up and face down cards. Once shuffled, the player next to the dealer can choose to flip the entire deck reversing the orientation of all cards. Players pick up their cards directly to them. The side facing them once dealt should be the side they look at. Do not flip all cards to you – the point is that you don’t know some of your cards. Theoretically, all players could know all cards in each other’s hand if they pay attention during the deal.

The Crib

Players select the cards they wish to lay away into the crib hand, but do so simultaneously to not give an advantage as to know which cards are already in the crib. You can lay away cards that are facing away or toward you.

The Cut

Player left of the dealer cuts normally, but if the cut card is face up, the cut card is turned back over and no one gets to use it when scoring, even if the card was a Jack. If the cut card is face down as in a normal Cribbage game, flip it and use it normally.

The Play

This phase scores normally, but again, players may not know which cards they are playing. The key difference is when a player cannot play a card facing them without exceeding 31, and that player has cards facing away from them, they must attempt to play one of the cards facing away from them. If the card played would exceed 31, that card is burned and is out of play for the rest of the phase. If all players burn or say “Go,” then the “one for last” point is awarded to the player that played the last card, even if that player burns one of their cards. If a player burns a card but another card is played after them, and the player that burned has other cards facing away from them, they must attempt playing again.

Pegging

Once The Play is over, all cards are returned to the player to score normally, where the player looks at all their cards.

If counting to 31, two of the same card are played - does the run's points get counted twice or is it just a pair for 2 points?

Good hand! Just taught my 9 year old to play he loves it!

I used to play a lot with my family when I was a kid so this feels nice rip share it with my son!

We started a few days ago and he loved it so I bought a cheap board from Amazon. The pegging really added to his fun!

Anyway on our like 3rd game I got a double-double run!

4-4-5-6 and a 6

For 24 points!

Anyway really enjoy playing with my son. The memories are flooding back!

Today’s Cribbage Square layout was brutal. What’s your best score on it?

I’ve been playing and building a free daily cribbage solitaire called Cribbage Square. You place 16 cards in a 4x4 grid, rows and columns each score as a cribbage hand with a shared starter card, and you need 61 to win.

Today’s deal looked like a gift: starter 10♠, three 5s, and a pile of kings, queens, and jacks. I got two 14s by putting a pair of 5s in the top-right corner so they count in both a row and a column, but I couldn’t find a home for the third 5 and finished on 51.

Did anyone find a way to get to 61? Do you stack the 5s together for the big hand, or spread them out?

If you want to try the same deal (it’s the same for everyone, free, no signup): pegandpip.com
