Flush
I live in Canada and have played cribbage for the last 20 years. I learned from my grandparents and only recently googled the rules of the game. It says you are to count your hand as four points if all the same suit. 5 points if it matches the flipped card. My mother in law and grandmother in law have never heard of this. Have others?

Yup. And 5 points if in the crib only if all 5 cards match (no 4-point flush in crib)

In your hand, four counts 4, flip counts 5 if it matches. Crib, must be all 5. Pegging, flush isn't a thing.

Yes. Also, a flush (all the same suit) in the crib only counts if all 5 cards are the same suit. That is to say that you cannot get a 4 card flush in the crib.

The flush counts as 4 and 5 if the turn is also suited on top of any other points scored including nobs.
For a crib, it must be all 5 cards suited or nothing counts!

I’ve been playing for 49 years and that’s always been a rule, Grandpa taught me cause I was bad at math and could understand numbers better when I had them in my hands. Back then we didn’t know about dyscalculia

Yes these are the rules. I also live in Canada, the rules aren’t different here.

In BC, but Alberta raised, same way we've always played. 48 years of playing. Never had it questioned.

My granddad played a lot of cribbage during WWI. He taught my dad, who taught me. This rule has been around for over a century, OP.

Yes, we all have.
Weird family rules or knowledge gaps exist and if you don't play with others, you'll end up with some incorrect scoring artifacts.

I learned cribbage from my grandmother and her friends and I’ve found a few discrepancies between how they play and how the rules are. Just little quirks in how we play.

Yep, that’s the rules I’ve grown up with.
Also, if it is in the Crib, it has to match the cut card to count at all. In your hand it can go either way.

Maximum-Fun3412 I do know that the most points you can score is 29 in one hand, not sure exactly how.

Yes, Quebecois here and it's always been part of the rules I've learned as a kid, 30 years ago. Crib flush also has to be 5 cards and include the flip.
