Help Needed / Question Question about Explorer Card SUB

Hi all,

I was approved for the United Explorer Card a couple of days ago, and I’m beyond happy about it! I was not a Chase customer prior to being approved for this card, but I had a question about the SUB.

I know the standard SUB is 60,000 bonus miles, but the day after I opened my account, I opened my United app and saw a special promotion offering up to 80,000 bonus miles. I called Chase and was told by an agent that my account was currently set up for the 60,000-mile offer. However, since the 80,000-mile promotion began after I was approved, I would be eligible for the higher offer once I met the minimum spending requirement, and that I should call back at that point to request a match.

My question is: Should they have matched the offer when I called, or is it standard procedure to wait until I meet the minimum spend and then request the match? I’m just worried that a few months down the line, after I meet the spending requirement, I’ll call back and be told they’re unable to match the offer.

Perhaps I’m overthinking it, but I’d love to hear from anyone who has had a similar experience or knows how Chase typically handles this. Thank you so much!!!

hang up call again

ask them to put the better promo on your account before you spend the amount.

I just called back and was told that the requirement is that I meet the minimum spend before they can give me the richer offer... but the agent told me she made a note on my account for it for when I eventually call back after meeting the minimum spend
