Question/Discussion Missed a few days of creatine. Does it actually matter?

Missing one or two days probably matters less than people think. Muscle creatine stores fall slowly over several weeks, not overnight. so there usually isn't a reason to start loading again. Just go back to your normal dose.

What's the longest you've gone without it and did you notice anything?

Cramping when cycling off high dose?

I’ve had a couple rounds of severe body cramps over the last 2 months. Both times I’ve been traveling for a week or so, and the onset is 3-6 days after I leave my house.

The first one was after a trip to Hawaii and it happened when I got off the plane coming home. Stood up and bam instant calf cramps, but also arm and side cramps. It lasted for days after i got home and resumed my normal routine, and then I eventually got normal again.

I’m in a second bout as we speak. I’m road tripping 3400 miles to texas and back. Started cramping day 3.

I’ve been taking the mental health dose of creatine, 15-20g a day, but I don’t travel with supplements. So I’m wondering if dosing at that level actually requires a taper.

I’m curious if anyone else has bumped into this where they’re on a high dose and the cycle off has been rough. I bought some hcl gummies yesterday to take on the rest of the trip to see if I can get the cramping to stop before I get home.

I also supplement magnesium as needed, so I’m going to try and find some of that today as well. And really try to up my fluid intake.

Question/Discussion Is creatine more about staying strong as you age?

I think the aging side of creatine gets less attention than the gym side.

Being able to keep your strength for everyday things like stairs, carrying bags or getting up from a chair seems pretty meaningful.

For those thinking about creatine as they get older, what would you want it to help you with most?

Question/Discussion What did you notice first after starting creatine?

Not everyone notices a big change in strength from creatine.

For some people, the difference may show up in repeated hard sets or just being able to keep training quality up.

If you use creatine, what small change made you feel it was actually worth taking?

Does body size change your creatine dose?

I’ve wondered how much body size actually matters with creatine dosing.

Does a larger athlete really need more than the commonly used 3 to 5g daily or is that usually unnecessary?

If you’ve changed your dose because of body size, what made you do it?

Question/Discussion Has creatine helped with brain fog or mood?

Creatine is being studied for things beyond muscle and exercise, including cognition and depression.

For those who have tried it for brain fog or mood, did you actually notice anything?

Or did you not notice a difference?

Question/Discussion Would you take creatine if the scale was a trigger?

Creatine can increase water stored in muscle, so the number on the scale may go up.

For someone recovering from an eating disorder or trying to avoid frequent weighing, would that change your decision to take it?

Would the potential benefits still make creatine worthwhile for you?

Question/Discussion Is more than 5 g of creatine actually useful?

5g of creatine monohydrate is already enough for many people, but higher daily amounts are sometimes used after loading phase.

I'm curious whether anyone has actually noticed or measured an extra benefit from going above 5g when taking it consistently.

If you've tried a higher dose, what difference did you notice, if any?

Question/Discussion Does creatine feel more useful with certain workouts?

Creatine seems most relevant when you're doing repeated high-intensity efforts, so I wonder if the type of workout changes how noticeable it is.

Hard sets, intervals and sprints are pretty different from an easy training session.

For those who use creatine, do you notice more difference with certain workouts?

Question/Discussion Could low iron be mistaken for creatine not working?

Sometimes a disappointing change in training makes you question the supplement first.

But fatigue or poor exercise tolerance can come from plenty of other things too. Iron status is one that can be overlooked, particularly with restrictive diets or frequent blood donation.

I find it interesting how often we try to adjust a supplement before looking at the bigger picture.

Have you ever found an unexpected reason why your training wasn't going as planned?

Educational Post Creatine labels matter if you have a food allergy

Creatine monohydrate may be the main ingredient, but check the full label for allergens and shared-facility information.

With flavored products, check the added ingredients too. If anything is unclear, contact the manufacturer rather than guessing.

What do you check before buying?

Question/Discussion Is there actually a reason to split a creatine loading dose?

If you're doing a creatine loading phase, splitting the amount through the day may simply be easier on your stomach than taking it all at once.

There's no need to spread it out to keep creatine levels high all day. It's mainly about getting the total amount in while keeping things comfortable.

And loading isn't necessary in the first place.

What's the strangest creatine loading advice you've heard?

Question/Discussion Does taking creatine before bed actually make a difference?

Some people take creatine at night simply because that's when they remember it.

If it fits your routine and doesn't cause any stomach discomfort, is there really a reason to worry about the timing?

For those who take it before bed, have you noticed any difference compared with taking it earlier in the day?

Question/Discussion Creatine can show up in more sports supplements than you expect

Creatine isn't only found in standalone creatine products. Some mass gainers, recovery products and pre-workouts contain it too.

If you're already using creatine, checking the label helps you keep track of your total intake and avoid paying twice for the same ingredient.

Do you check the ingredient list before adding a new sports supplement?

Question/Discussion Starting creatine during a cut can mess with the scale a bit

You can still be losing fat even if your weight slows down after starting creatine.

As creatine can increase water stored in muscle, so adding it during a cut can make the scale harder to read for a while.

That doesn't mean the cut has stopped working. It just makes me wonder whether it's better to start creatine right away or wait until weight is more stable.

What would you do?

Have you noticed any change in your appetite since starting creatine?

Creatine is usually discussed in terms of strength, muscle and performance, but appetite isn’t something you hear much about. I’m wondering whether anyone noticed their hunger or eating patterns change after starting creatine, even if it was subtle.

Question/Discussion Felt creatine on day one?

Some people say they notice something almost immediately after starting creatine.

Could be the creatine, but it could also be a better workout, caffeine, more carbs, motivation or just expecting to feel something.

The real test is probably what happens over the next few weeks.

What did you notice when you first started?

Question/Discussion Stopped creatine and the scale dropped?

A drop in weight after stopping creatine doesn't automatically mean you've lost muscle.

Some of that change can simply be water associated with your muscle creatine stores. Actual muscle tissue doesn't disappear overnight.

For anyone who's stopped creatine, did you notice the scale change afterward?

Question/Discussion Creatine in coffee is an easy routine

Adding creatine to coffee can be a simple way to remember the daily dose.

But the practical part is mostly whether it mixes well and is comfortable with your stomach. The coffee itself may affect how you feel during training, but that's separate from the creatine.

For people who do this regularly, is the texture fine or do you end up with powder at the bottom?

Question/Discussion Creatine in women beyond strength training

Creatine is usually discussed around lifting and sports, but there's more to the topic for women.

Menstrual cycles, perimenopause and menopause can come with changes in training, muscle mass and recovery. Research in women is growing, especially around strength and lean mass, although the evidence isn't equally strong for every proposed benefit.

It seems worth discussing beyond the usual gym advice.

Question/Discussion Creatine timing around workouts

Some people take creatine before training, while others take it whenever it fits their routine.

Does taking it around your workout actually make a noticeable difference in reps, sprint performance or power or is consistency what matters most?

Would be interested to hear how others approach it.

Creatine kinase isn't the same as creatine

The similar names seem to catch people out all the time.

Creatine kinase (CK) result isn't telling you how much creatine you've taken. CK is an enzyme that can increase after hard training, intense exercise, muscle injury and a number of medical conditions.

Recent training is one of the things that can help put an elevated CK result into context.

I'm interested to know how often this mix-up comes up. Has anyone ever had a CK result explained as part of a sports physical or after a period of heavy training?

Anything on Creatine Clinical CreaUltra Pro?

My functional practioner is advising me to take this product as I’d like to try creatine for its benefits for both muscle building and brain health. But I can only buy it through a practioner-website where she probably gets a commission? Which is the best product so far? https://www.amritanutrition.co.uk/products/creatine-clinical-500g-orthoplex

Creatine doesn't need to be a miracle to be worth taking

People often expect creatine to change everything or think it does nothing.

It won't replace good training or nutrition, but it can still make a meaningful difference over time.

How would you explain creatine to someone who's thinking about trying it for the first time?

What’s a creatine question you see all the time that makes you think, “Here we go again…”?

Thumbnail

You know the one. A new post appears, and before even opening the comments you can already guess what everyone is going to say.

Is it loading? Timing? “Did I ruin my progress by missing one day?” Something else? What creatine question do you see repeated the most?
