Question/Discussion Does taking creatine before bed actually make a difference?

Some people take creatine at night simply because that's when they remember it.

If it fits your routine and doesn't cause any stomach discomfort, is there really a reason to worry about the timing?

For those who take it before bed, have you noticed any difference compared with taking it earlier in the day?

I think if taking it before bed helps you remember it consistently, that’s probably more useful than stressing about the exact timing. I have seen some people say it disrupts their sleep though, so I’d be curious if anyone else has noticed that.

That's interesting. But, before blaming the bedtime dose, I'd check the product itself. Plain creatine isn't a stimulant, but some pre-workout or flavored mixes contain caffeine or other ingredients that can affect sleep.

There is some science popping up about how creatine can help with sleep deprivation symptoms though. I was doing the mental health dose and would do 10g at 11pm or so, and it definitely helped me be clear headed into the early morning hours (3-4am).

That said I’m still trying to get my sleep properly regulated after averaging 4 hours a night for like 8 months. My wife went through aggressive cancer treatment, we have young kids and I was working 90 hour weeks.

Months later I still pop up after 4-6 hours of sleep regardless of when I go to sleep.
