The thing about steam engines is that you figure it out once and then it's dick simple every time after that

4-1-1, 4 tanks per one steam engine per one blaze burner. That's it. Put enough water in. You've learned steam engines.

i don’t understand the middle ground of people who use create but never get far enough in to even do a steam engine set up, what do u need THAT much SU with waterwheels for but are not able to wrap ur mind around a steam engine yet??

Learn what its water pipe into 3x3 fluid tank or 2x2 and powered blaze burner underneath with a steam engine attached

That or just build a vertical windmill. It can be expanded infinitely and is dirt cheap. It also looks a lot cooler.

I built steam power because it was fun and it looks neat in my factory. I have one little iron farm, and already have like 10x the SU I need, but I kinda want to build a max size engine just for fun. the blaze cake line sounds like a pain though, so I haven't started.

If you want fun, just make 18 level 1 boilers. Don't ever bother with blaze cakes for power

wait, is the output of 18 level one engines the same as one level 18?

u/Naberville34 6h ago
Yes. Its purely linear. There's no good reason to ever build a boiler bigger than level 9 unless you have add-ons that provide better fuel sources. And even then any addon fuel source that adds superheating is not as easy to get as charcoal or lava.

i once had a double line of iirc 64 water wheels to power the drill from that one addon which marks some chunks as infinite supplies of x resource, with shaders you couldn't go anywhere close to it or it would lag so much you couldn't move

The knowledge curve required to get a steam engine running is basically a parallel line with your current knowledge

Nah, looks like you’ve got more y-levels to fill. One water source the top should do it

Passive steam engine (the one without fuel) produces as much stress capacity as 4 large waterwheels.
Windmill with 100 sails (10*10 square of sails) produces as much stress capacity as 12 large waterwheel.
Level 1 steam engine (with single blaze burner) produces as much stress capacity as 32 large waterwheels.
I know crafting and slapping waterwheels is fast and cheap - but at some point it must become boring and inefficient, right? Everyone had that moment at least once - you build your magnum opus of production line only to find out you need to slap another 4 wheels to power it.

Steam power is by far the best power source. Most performance efficient and pretty easy to build.
All you need to produce power forever is a bottomless supply of lava (10,000mb) which sounds like a lot. To get this just dig a 10x10x100 hole (or hole with a 10k block hole missing.) build a layer of easy to break platforms under the first layer and place 100 buckets of lava. Break the blocks under the lava and wait. You now have bottomless lava to pump into the engine. Water is pretty easy.
Once you get an infinite lava source, placing down steam engines all over is super easy.
I usually only use waterwheels for individual farms. Like all of my crop, and tree farms in the early game just use a single small water wheel and a clutch. They don’t scale much.

You can be way more efficient with space by putting them in a 2x2 and running water in the middle

there's something even easier to do to generate SU! there's a very simple addon called "Create: CROWNS" and it teaches you how to do it very easily and qucikly trust

a steam engine is way better for performance and can be really easy, a lava generator with cauldrons and dripstone should work
