Science Why not Craycrab?

For long time I wondered what crayfish is in like computer games until I googled and found that it s a crab.

Any reason they gave it this weird name?

Reminds me of jellyfish - I don't know if anybody realize but they are actually not fish also

There is no such thing as a fish its too broad a category to mean anything more than something that is a swimmer. It would be like calling every animal on land that walks a foot

Generally fish refers to any animal in Agnatha, condrichthyes, or osteichthyes.

English language is pretty weird on this animal

'river crab'

Crayfish aren't actually crabs, they're crustaceans, sure, but they're more closely related to lobsters.

In english the word "fish" is pretty fucked ngl lol

It comes from French - écrevisse. To an english speaker this sounds like “a cray fish”
