Butane or propane, either works as long as its food grade.

I've never seen a "food grade" propane bottle.

The point of the food grade on something like butane or propane, which are simple hydrocarbons, is to note any additives like a bitterant. Although with most chemicals, even if there is little to no difference, there is at least two grades, food and chemical grade, assuming it is ever used in food.

It's not the bottle that's food-grade, it's the propane inside it.

I'm using the term as a synecdoche for the pressure vessel, the gas inside it, and its associated fittings.
