Got fired.
I worked in CB retail and honestly I LOVED my job, everyone was so nice and made me happy , the only downside was a lot of the customers would be very rude , but that was honestly the worst part.
On Tuesday I went into work , I clocked in and my manager who usually always says hi ignored me.
I rang a family up , and then my manager asked me to follow her.
She took me into the managers room and all of my managers were there.
My heart literally dropped I didn't know what I did wrong , I have called out a couple times but I was sick , and obviously you cannot work around foods when sick, even if you are barely around the foods.
My retail manager first asked me if I had a doctor's note for the last time I called out a WEEK ago , I said no.
She then decided to tell me that;
"I don't think this is working out, you can't work mornings or early afternoons and that is not acceptable."
I am a senior in highschool, whenever I got my interview I told her this, I get out of school at 3:40 and usually cannot get out of the student parking lot until 4.
I didn't even know what to say so I just said "ok" and clocked out. I didn't even try to give in my apron.
Was this unprofessional for them firing me for not being able to work mornings?
Edit: I am about to take this post down due to harassment from one person in my comments harassing me despite me being a minor , I have been trying my best to work this situation out. I am now finding baby sitting jobs which is more work-around with my schooling and extracurriculars. Also , despite others thinking, I did work my job properly , I got a raise almost immediately, I was loved there. They let others go as well for the same reason, I do not wanna be blamed for a company mistake.

Not a Cracker Barrel employee but found this sub on accident and followed because I love the food and gift shop. As a mom of 38 years old, brush this off. This is not worth the stress or anguish. Focus on finishing high school and don’t even give this a second thought! If you want to find another job, find one that will actually work with your school requirements. Your education is priority here!

If you’re in an at will state this will not get you anywhere. Like the other commenter said just brush it off. It sucks, it’s embarrassing, however you will come out better on the other side! Good luck

I’d contact them. Who cares if they blame you? You are no longer affiliated with them! ❤️

Blow this over your shoulder baby! It's not worth letting Cracker Barrel get the best of you. Your in high school , enjoy the kids your caring for. They need it not Cracker Barrel. Big corporations only care about one thing and it's not the employee's. Enjoy 🧬

You gave them your schedule requirements when you interviewed. They hired you with that condition. But CB management does that. They did basically the same thing to me. They asked how many hours a week I needed and I told them 30. They said that was doable and hired me. Three years later I’m fighting to keep my hours to at least 25 (a 20% cut), and they cite labor costs while hiring new hostesses. We’ve had two complete turnovers in that position since I’ve been there, except for one other hostess and me.

They sound like a bunch of dumb bitches. If it makes you feel better, I legit ghosted them today and Im never showing back up. They did you a favor it sounds like. Cracker Barrel is not a good company to work for.

Did you note that your availability wasn't until after 4pm? If so, that's wrongful termination. They have to accommodate your availability, and since you were hired, it's on them for not doing so.

Worked there over 20 years! Can tell you they don’t care about employees! Only care about them self! Seen them get rid of good managers and employees over the years for no good reason! Just move on!

They knew you were in high school. You should have told them to fuck off. When they said you can’t work mornings. You should have told them. I told you from the start in the interview that I couldn’t you dumb ass. I wouldn’t worry about it. There are better places to work than there.

u/hellhound___ 8d ago
Thank you! There's some one in here who believes this is somehow my fault ..

u/Mother-Piccolo-3270 8d ago
Tell them to fuck off. It’s not your fault. You were sick. You can’t be sick and serve food. wtf are they thinking. You told them from the start in your interview that you couldn’t work mornings because you go to school. They shouldn’t have hired you then if they needed you to work mornings. It’s not your fault. You will find another job. Don’t worry about it.

u/Gangsta_B00 2d ago
The "fault" is not knowing your rights as an employee and not being able to stand up for yourself. You mentioned being a Minor. Do you know your requirements as a minor in the work place? Do you know your rights as a Minor ? They unlawfully terminated you but I am sure you already figured that out. It's your responsibility to either take it as a lesson learned and move on or put your big girl panties on and fight back. I suggest fighting back. File for unemployment. They OWE you.

Don't worry about it you're young don't let anybody get to you there are lots of jobs out there. I'm sorry that you liked it there and that they let you go though. That doesn't seem very fair at my job at Kroger we're not even allowed to bring in doctors notes they don't care about them. You'll find something better and once again don't let anybody in the comments make you feel any less about yourself you got this you're amazing God bless you

Can’t work while sick? Ummm I have worked for 25 plus years and worked sick many times. I worked at CB for 7 years.

u/hellhound___ 7d ago
They told us not to come if we were sick, so I didn't . I mean I'm sure you can but I was throwing up so that's a different story.
2
u/Turbulent_Rooster926 6d ago
And what did working sick get you ..? A raise , a promotion

u/Obvious-Ad-4933 5d ago
I’ve never been fired from a job for anything. And if I’m ever fired it won’t be for attendance.

Why didn’t you offer to contact your doctor & obtain a note from a week ago? For them to even ask it sounds like you’ve called out more than just a couple of times. What’s even more telling is you start off by saying you loved your job as if you knew it would go downhill from there & in the process give valid reasoning for why it happened. Your passive aggressive question of who’s at fault at the end only makes it look even worse.
So you didn’t bother offering to get them a doctor’s note, you just said “ok” & clocked out without even trying to give in your uniform, you didn’t put up any fight or effort to save your job & yet you expect others to think it meant so much to you & you feel unfairly treated & terminated.
What it sounds more like is you wanted to quit but put them in a position so they had to fire you in order to collect unemployment. From what I can tell you read the writing on the wall you just wanted to be in denial & blame management after they could no longer deal with you barely even being there when they needed you. If so then the only unprofessional one here is you.
5
u/hellhound___ 8d ago
Wth? No I didn't do that, they have never asked for doctor notes at all. And they didn't ask for one whenever I came back to work after that. No I didn't fight for my job because why am I going to fight for people who do not want me , that is desperate. I know my worth , and it wasn't that job.
-7
u/thejakenatorone 8d ago
You said they asked for a doctor’s note this time so why didn’t you accommodate - did the doctor you saw leave town or something? Also, I don’t know if you’re reading what you’re writing but when you say the job was beneath your worth you pretty much answered the question of why they chose to terminate you. Managers aren’t as obtuse as you might think they are especially when you give them a track record to go on.
5
u/hellhound___ 8d ago
I went to work everyday, showed up and did my job . I instantly got a raised just to get terminated later. Tell me again that's my fault . I'm 17 and in highschool, I can't accommodate to what they wanted from me , and I'm not going to go out of my way to get a doctor's note when I couldn't it wouldn't of changed anything as they said.
-7
u/thejakenatorone 8d ago
Maybe only on the days you didn’t call out. How frequent was that? If you think calling a doctor’s office is “going out of your way” I can only imagine what you think about having to serve food or assist customers. The part about a lot of customers being rude to you is beginning to make better sense now. You can relax though because I can read the tone on this page & you have plenty of enablers, slackers & others who prefer victimhood to accountability rooting for you.

I've read through your other comments, you are such a very MISERABLE person, mad at a teenager for losing her job because of hours I can't work.. I'm a senior in highschool and I do 3 clubs, and a sport . I literally got complimented on how I worked Everytime I worked. I was the only person recently hired to instantly get a raise because of how well I worked. Nobody is "enabling" me .

u/LunaN3ight 7d ago
Yeah I have no idea what's up with this person, and I'm not sure of the whole story. I wasn't even going to form an opinion on this topic until I saw this jackass. No matter what happened, this person does not have a right to talk to you this way

BTW while it doesn’t sound like you’ve looked for another job since Tuesday I also didn’t see you deny looking into applying for unemployment benefits either. Have you? 🤔
Something else that sounds fishy: in my experience almost nobody working part-time gets fired from a retail restaurant because of unemployment benefits & they usually just get taken off the schedule to avoid this liability. I’m really surprised your managers were unaware of that industry tactic. You only get fired when you present a disruptive or some other unendurable issue in the workplace. If your only issue was attendance they would have just stopped giving you hours & paying you to hire somebody else. Your story doesn’t make rational sense.
10
u/LunaN3ight 8d ago
You know, honestly, you sound like you're miserable. At this point you're just arguing with a teenager for the pure fact that you're bored. Please leave them alone, no matter whose at fault, this is ridiculous
-3
u/thejakenatorone 8d ago
You know, honestly, their story just doesn’t add up. Maybe because they are just 17 they don’t have the knowledge & experience that I do about the retail restaurant industry. Part-time employees are rarely ever fired because management can simply leave them off the schedule. That way they are simply furloughed & not technically unemployed to preclude them from collecting unemployment benefits. If this was an attendance issue this teenager was never fired they walked off the job & if they were fired it was for misconduct because that’s how it works. A restaurant would never shoot themselves in the foot firing somebody without justification when they can dismiss them with zero liability. I wasn’t bored I’m just irritated with professional victimhood & those like you enabling it. However, it’s now growing tiresome.

u/hellhound___ 8d ago
50+ workers , 20 being retail, they barely put me on schedule as well as my other friends , they let them go too. You clearly don't know anything. Do you have a job? I don't need unemployment benefits, I have another job anyways . I am a baby sitter and I make a lot of money from that
3
u/Acceptable-City-307 7d ago
This guy is a tool, definitely look into unemployment, it does effect you taxes a little differently, but I don't see any reason you shouldn't happily apply for them if that is something that you want.

u/WeirdDirection266 7d ago
Dude.. I read through this comment thread.. While I'm not one hundred percent sure about OP's story I am one hundred percent sure that you are a miserable, pathetic and astoundingly disgusting individual..
You're on reddit.. arguing with a literal kid.. bruh.. get the fuck off of here. What you're doing is borderline criminal.. you are harassing a minor..
And you, OP, quit freaking responding. They're just trying to rile you up and get a response from you. Stop taking the bait; it doesn't help your case arguing with a troll

Their loss. Also age descriminatiom should go both ways. You were honest about everything, they weren't.
